Now that gold coin piles are a functioning asset I think they should also be found in fort vaults. I mean, it kinda makes sense doesn't it? When you imagine a big pile of treasure, the first thing I think of is a pile of coins and trinkets.

@musicmee Would have to be a very massive pile at the FOTD to content with the other loot there. A few thousand at least!
I think this is great and honestly, a nice QOL adjustment that can be made overall.
Picture this: Your sailing sailing around and plop on an island doing a quest or exploring, and find a random small pile of gold, just washed up on the beach, or in the corner of a cave. (Perhaps have them spawn next to landmarks, like dug up treasure chests spots, or dead skeletons). We see it all the time in Pirate themed movies, some wanderer finds a poor soul clinging to his gold.
Sunken ships could have 'floating piles' of gold tucked on the ceiling or side walls. Surely not all the loot on that forsaken ship was just fancy items!? (Think One-Eyed Willy!)
Perhaps a Gold Skeleton you fight dies and has a small change of dropping a pile of gold with Gold Captains having more gold. (I mean they ARE made of gold, those bones must be worth something!)
The Fort idea is great, again because it would fix the overall ambiance of treasure, both items and big piles of gold in the vault. (Makes me think of Cave of Wonders.)
Finally, even as just a fun QOL change (I know lore wise there is a reason we don't take the gold -but hey never hurts to put the idea out there) Imagine treating the "shores of gold" tall tales end like the Cave of Wonders. Pirate lord tells you not to touch the gold, and only to take the skull (don't touch the forbidden treasure!!!) Instead, you are able to try and pick up the gold piles but doing so caused hordes of skeletons to swarm upon you or the room to start flooding or rocks to start falling (basically one big hazard that you CANNOT beat) You have to either Run or risk dying and lose the skull but you are able to take a chance and grab some gold lol! (again I know lore wise its not right to let us take the gold, but lets face it that treasure is sooooo tantalizing now that 'gold piles' exist as proper loot.)
They dont even have to be huge for the RNG non vault based ones, but enough of a small reward for taking out the enemy or exploring. Plus for Vaults like FOTD, it would allow a modest reward should you get attacked (so you don't feel like you lost everything) while still allowing more of a chance for enemies to swoop in as suggested.
