New Merchant Quest Issue

    So i go to the tavern, get the quest for the missing ship on the route.

    I follow all the clues, blah blah blah.

    I find the ship, I find the preposterous manifest. The captain's room on the ship is locked. I search around for ages trying to find the key to the door (door says it needs a key).

    I check every barrel, must have gone down 20 times! clean the whole ship out. No key. I think "maybe it's just this one."

    Do it again... same issue. I'm pulling my hair out here. Is it bugged or am I missing something obvious?

    You'll find the key at one of the clue spots before you get to the ship. Don't pick up the manifest until you do, because that ends the quest and likely despawns all the clue drops.

    @dave-chitty the key is somewhere around the clues before...so nowhere near the shipwreck...

    I had this same thing happen to me tonight twice. I did three of the voyages tonight and out of the three only one gave me a key. The other two, we checked, double checked and triple checked every spot where we found a clue and not one had a key. There is definitely something buggy going on it was very frustrating.

    Plot the course from your voyage on your map table with (rough) markers, follow it beginning to end and be mindful of smaller, higher-up, seagull flocks - you will see planks and hatch openings in the water, this is where you will find your key/bottle/barrel (unless the key doesn't spawn)

    My experiences, 4/4 have been missing/nospawn shipwrecks, or missing/nospawn keys.

    Anyone with similar experience?

    I’ve had the same problem (Xbox). Tried this twice: first time no key or ship, second run I only found the key, but no ship in sight. Sailing the sector, diving, looking for birds etc.. Then sail around the area aimlessly until a bunch of pirates decide to sink me :)

    Sometimes also found the birds are there, then disappear as I sail towards them. Feels like I’m missing something, but reading these posts makes me think there’s a bug here somewhere...

    EDIT: just done another one this afternoon; on this one I found everything - key, ship, cargo, manifest. Didn’t do anything different to the first two, so hard to figure out why they failed.

    How do I find a clue? I don't know what to look for!!!!

    @grafik8642 look for birds flying in the sky on the route shown on the map - retrace that. You’ll see something there with a clue inside. Good luck!

    @oldskooltiger Thanks! I will try to work out the route - so far I only found a couple of wrecks, but no obvious clue. What do the clues look like? Are they in a wreck? Maybe I didn't follow the route properly!
