Over the past time, I've only noticed world events existing over the OOS voyages, either a pirate lord battle (with lesser minions), or Phantom Fleets with just two extra waves. Hence, I've been trying to dig into something that resembles a bit the Ancient Vault / Lost Cargo, and made its lore based on "Davy Jones's Locker", intertwined with likely one of the most notorious pirates that went MIA after on a big gold stash journey; Bosun Bill.
Lore Context (IRL + Ingame)
As the current lore knows, Bosun Bill was an incompetent pirate that always got their voyage ideas stolen, but one day ended up stranded with the map piece leading to an ancient hoard of gold. With the vault idea, we finally will see what Bosun Bill was hunting after. Davy Jones's Locker is a euphemism/pirate slang for being "the bottom of the ocean". It was originated from a prophet named Jonah, who went on an emissary mission across the seas but never made landfall. He sunk, and his legend transcended into that the ocean floor is his 'domain' now, and in folklore was the reason why sometimes people or ships disappeared. Anytime a ship sunk, it was written as that the ship and its crew was now stuck in 'Davy Jones's Locker' (as, even up to this very day, the bottom of the ocean is hardly reachable). To this day, Jonah's ship has not been found still.
The Event
As soon as the Bosun Bill's Locker event kicks in, two things will appear on the map; The Sunken Vault (A.k.a., Bosun Bill's Locker), and Bosun Bill's Skeleton Brigantine, the poor fool's ship had sunk and now belongs to the Skeletons.
Phase 1 - Finding the ship
For the first "phase", a sky marker will follow Bosun Bill's Brigantine. The room to the captain's 'quarters' is locked in the Brigantine, and the only way to unlock it is by sinking the Brigantine and/or retrieving it from its Skeleton Captain. Once defeated, the ship remains stationary sunk underwater for a while, and inside the now-unlocked cabin, lies a diamond Vault Key, named after its location. However, unlike the original vault keys, its entrance is sunken in a ruin underwater. For as long the key has not been used to open the vault, the key (and any ship or person who caries it) is marked on the map in a similar way as the ship.
Phase 2 - Breaching the Vault
Breaching the Vault is likely the easiest step. The Vault always spawns in an empty area between 3 islands (for example, inbetween Lost Gold Fort, Shark Bait Cove, and Old Salts Atoll). When diving down deep, a plinth awaits you in front of the door, where the key can be inserted. Once the key is inserted, the door opens, leading upstairs into a room filled with air, about smaller than the Golden Shores temple room. From this point onwards, the marker remains stuck at wherever the vault is.
Phase 3 - Plundering the Vault.
As soon as the key is inserted, the door opens, and action starts. Inside the room lay scattered piles of gold and normal-tier treasure around, spread across all factions. However, there are also some special treasures;
- Unlocking the Vault's puzzle reveals 2 Chests of Ancient Tributes, as well as its trophy prize; a Chest of Earthly Treasures, a chest that on its own fetches a good haul, but can carry small items similarly like any Collector Chest.
- Across the vault too, there are Jewelled Chests, and Crates of Silverware. In addition, goldhoarder skeletons spawn in the hoard, where its 'miniboss' version drops a Golden Skull.
- Inside the vault are 4 Mermaid statues, with a white gem and glow. Being harder to take down than a Red statue (but also, they do not regenerate), they drop a Merfolk Diamond, a vault-exclusive Generic treasure.
Much like a normal vault, Bosun Bill's Locker is only accessible for a limited time, and to access all its rewards, both parkour and a puzzle will challenge you. As the timer ticks down, the area becomes harder and harder to clear (Falling Obstacles, Tremors, Skeletons), but also Sharks will run more rampant around the vault.
At the vault entrance, is a stationary prop skeleton with a book. The book writes a story about that pirate, Davy Bones (as reference to; Davy Jones) about how he learnt from Bosun Bill's plan, and swapped his clue with a fake one. Bosun Bill's hunt sent him astray into a skeleton fleet while he went to the vault. Little did he know, that the vault required a key, and as such he drowned over being woefully unprepared. Where Bosun Bill went, remains a mystery.
Once the vault timer has elapsed, the Vault closes, and anyone inside will be drowned as it floods with water. All sharks nearby it will remain until dealt with, but none more will spawn except its usual spawnrate. The marker too will disappear when the vault has closed.
