Did the amount of gold you get from trading commodities get nerfed this week? It seems to be a little less, but I’m not 100% sure.
Did commodities get nerfed?
@kommodoreyenser ha detto in Did commodities get nerfed?:
@cornelius-ix had a “note” pop up when hopping this afternoon doing the daggertooth-ancient spire-morrows loop.
Think they patched it today with lower values.
A note? :0
@kommodoreyenser ha detto in Did commodities get nerfed?:
@fox-gr yeah one of those notes you get when you wake up in the tavern at session start.
And what was written on that note? That commodities will be nerfed? Pity!

The commodity prices were "adjusted" which we all know means value was lowered.
Honestly it was warranted. The commodities were busted. They still are imo.
A fort of fortune as reaper 5 will give you around 250k golds. To earn it you will have to complete it (around 30 min, maybe more) and defend yourself from attackers. There is a chance that you will spend an hour of gameplay with no gold in return.
OTOH you could do commodities and turn the same profit in an hour, with significantly less risks, and you're not even capped. You could go on for 1 more hour for even more gold. It's way too good.

Yes, they are. An Athena chest worths nothing right now. And Athena trinkets? That's garbage. Even a Skull of Ashen Winds has more value, and you only need 200 cannon balls and 5 minutes to defead an Ashen Lord.
The gold earned should match the value of forts/events, vaults, Athena or Devil's Roar voyages, so you can make money the way you want depending on your game style of your mood.
They honestly need to be nerfed again, it's wild how profitable these still are. You can make almost 3-400k in under an hour of incredibly easy sailing.
It doesn't even feel profitable to hunt down merchants who are doing these because they always have roughly the same amount of loot onboard since they're constantly selling and restocking at every outpost, and you only get the base value for selling to Reapers. I tried hunting some down with some friends but we quickly realized it's way more profitable to just actually do the routes yourself.
It's brainless, free money. Already saw one server we were on turn into a spontaneous alliance server because everybody came to the same realization that doing the routes is more profitable than stealing them. It's gold without glory.

It's worth pointing out here that this has always been true as long as alliances have existed. It has always been worth more in the long run to just ally up and go your separate way than to attack and steal. 50% of three hauls is more than 100% of one haul. Add that for every ship on the sea, and the only reason we have PvP at all at this point is because players have motivations other than "make maximum gold".
That's not entirely true tho.
You can either steal a haul and getting 100% of the value or you can get 50% of it and the promise (no garantee) of future gold.Truth is, most of the time when I ally with someone it turns out that it would have been more profitable to simply sink them and take what they have and their flag.
- They were on their way to sell and log off but didn't say so (smart dudes)
- They're inefficient and take way too long for you to wait for them to gather enough loot. (new and or casual players)
Alliance is really more profitable than stealing treasures only when you ally for an extended period of time with players willing to do their best and know what they are doing.
Here it's something different: it's actually more profitable to trade commodities yourself than to try to steal other merchants. Honestly, if your aim is solely to make money, I don't think there is a more profitable and safer way to do it in the game right now. You will get roughly the same amount of gold per hour trading than farming events uninterrupted, probably even more since you're likely to get interrupted more often farming event as reaper.
Its setup to actually be pirated. Back in the real pirate age, they were going after merchant ships.
Realistically, you need more ships on the server to be able to run into them more often for the commodities to have more risk. But we know that will probably not be an option because Xbox. But would balance it out. Or make crates, chests, etc have weight and slow your ship down or make it more prone to sink quicker, or less agile in turns. Now you have to decide, throw stuff off board to go faster to get away. Your risk vs reward is now weighted (pun intended). But this option takes you out of the cartoon world and probably wont happen.
I havnt played for about a year, but i've never had more fun than the first time I logged in and did the commodities and had to defend our haul against a few reapers.
It also lessens the time dump of digging up treasure to get pirated later and time lost. This is setup to be more of a casual experience which, as you know, a lot of companies pander to. I dont mind it at all. Remember in WoW you couldnt get instant max lavel, but now its pretty standard to get bumped up to high level. Because the casual base was dying and they needed people on even ground. On SoT.. out of the 20 million players, how many are active?
I play in the 'sandbox pirate cosmetic collector' game because its fun. Not because I need the most money from every random. If the money gave you a skill advantage, sure but it doesnt.
I do agree though. The new fort should give you more money in the hour time than the 1 hour of commodities. Either way, it doesnt affect my life. Give newbies 5mil for signing up, it doesnt matter to me and my playstyle of 'hotmess'.
The new fort is carnage, it definitely needs more reward. I have only completed one and it made me take a break from pvp for days - we were fighting constantly for hours and it was incredibly draining to play at that level of constant threat for so long.
I would rather do fort of the damned and i`m really tired of doing that.
The new fort has about 100k in loot without any emissary. With emissary you are look at 250k or more.
What are you talking about?? Also thats the whole point of the new fort is the carnage. The fact that you said you had to fight for hours is amazing. This is what the game has been missing for a long time.
The new fort is perfect the way it is. It doesn't need more loot and I hate the fact that players believe that other players doing whatever doesn't effect them just because "hey I can still do what I do and they do what they do. If they get 500B gold how does that effect me??"
It effects you by changing the dynamic of the game and the goals of the players. It changes how players approach the game. Its a multiplayer game. SoT works more like an eco system than anything.
New fort is fine.
