I want to pull the treasure map closer to my face

  • As I would in real life, because I am old. I want to pull a treasure map up close to my face so i can see better. Seeing this animation from 3rd person would also be hilarious... A pirate with their nose right in the map ha! Yes, you are saying I should probably get better glasses or lasik, or a new UHD 85" TV. But why do all that when I can ask a game developer to change a mechanic in a game? (and yes I already use the high contrast X.)

But seriously, That is how I read stuff in real life, and My pirate would too if I could pull it close to my face. It just a few of the maps I really truly struggle with, and I find myself leaning way into my TV. If I could get my pirate to pull the map just a little closer, doesn't have to be extreme, would help this aging pirate out. I KNOW this is silly but I think this literally every time I open a map.

  • I support pulling it close and having a mild zoom effect

I also support people being able to rotate it around if they want to

  • @wolfmanbush a rotate would be nice too! A mild pan and zoom would be great, like a minimalized map table function

  • @wolfmanbush

Agreed. Even in the trailer for the game, it shows a pirate rotating the map. :p

    fine idea

you mean like a full 360 or a flip like you can do now

  • @dr-orchamedes

If you have a shipmate, you can mimic a zoom function by having your buddy "show" you their map (left trigger on controller, right click on mouse) while you examine it with a spyglass.

Solo players are still out of luck

  • Is it tied to the FOV?

  • If you play on Xbox, you can magnify. Hold the Xbox button, then hit select.

It magnifies the screen 3x and only takes a second to do. I use it all the time in Deep Rock Galactic

    Handy!

  • Map table. It has better zoom.

  • It'd be nice if we could set it down on the map table so we could zoom and then zoom more with the spyglass. I think that'd be balanced as you couldn't have it zoomed in while out on the isle doing digs but you can crazy zoom it while on the ship.

This may lead to some fun team or "crew" building exercises over comms. XD

  • @galactic-geek if only we could carry the map table onto an island!

haha! we have attempted this, and it is a lot more difficult than it sounds lol. It was silly fun to try it though.

  • @paparug420 this is great information! I am definitely going to give this a go! Thank you

The additional zoom from the map table helps in getting the ship closer to the dig sight.
Also helps orient confused pirates in finding said dig sight.

This in turn saves valuable time and risk.

    Old guys rule.

  • @joe-krakatoa I agree! Using the map table to get in to a good position is highly undervalued. However on some islands even looking at the map table can only get you so far. Unless you have perfect visual recall, 99.99% of players are still going to have to consult the hand help map.

  • @dr-orchamedes

I think that percentage is a bit biased. I seen how some pirates don't leave the boat until theyre ready, hit the beach, one-tap the red X, and dig up the prize. Cartography skillz matter.

But I like this idea, it presents a visual cue of opportunity for a tucc, or a gank. It shows others one may not be situationally aware.
Thing is, we will need a second alternative key press. Or maybe a double mouse click and hold.

  • @joe-krakatoa HA! indeed my % has no scientific basis and was a theoretical gross over exaggeration. For me personally I can study that map table and still get lost on the big islands looking for that dig spot. (the small island are less an issue) Then when I pull the handheld, a lot of the details are totally lost in a blur of pixels and my brain melts a little. But as mentioned previous in this thread, I am going to use that Xbox zoom!

I too have witnessed pirates running in and one shotting X's on the move and its super satisfying.
