SoT is shutting down my computer....

  • Yes, shutting down, not crashing, complete computer shutdown.

Now I wouldn't normally post about this and attempt to troubleshoot myself, but this is a problem only with this game.

    System Specs:

    • Processor AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor 3.60 GHz
    • Installed RAM 64.0 GB
    • System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

    OS Specs

    • Edition Windows 10 Pro
    • list itemVersion 21H1
    • list itemInstalled on ‎4/‎10/‎2021
    • list itemOS build 19043.1052

I checked the logs and my system is not showing any errors, so I am unsure why this is happening. This is the ONLY application/game that is causing this to happen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • there has been a few times where this has happened to me while playing both a full random shutdown and sleep mode

I always just assumed it was a mixture of my gorilla fingers hitting the wrong buttons and running too many sasquatch related podcasts in the background while trying to shoot pirates

  • @wolfmanbush Not in my case, my internet is fiber, my computer is hardwired to the router, which is a gigabit router, and my computer has priority on the network.

The bandwidth coming through is 700/850

I should not have my computer shut down on me using this game anyway, it is not processor intensive.

  • I also have a Ryzen 3700x and this is happening to me. My computer will shut down at random times, not overheating or anything. My fiancé has the same PC build and SoT runs just fine... Not sure what is happening because many players online report the same issue with a variety of different builds. I wish they would look into this...

  • @ttvastroalli you and I both. SoT at full screen, max settings uses 15% of the processor and 6 out of the 8GB for Vram.

So I'm not sure what the issue is.

I run more intensive games on my co.puter without issue. Such as Wolfenstein : New Order, and even some high-demand racing games.

So I'm not sure at the issue actually is.

  • Same thing happened to me this morning, was going through a Portal and my PC completely locked up went to go and tab out to Force Quit the game since I was locked in a Black Screen. Re-opened Sea of Thieves and my entire system was running at almost 80c. Gpu was pushing 85c and CPU was over 75c don't know what caused this but would be nice to hear something from Rare on the matter.

    Ryzen 3700x
    32gbs Ram
    EVGA 2080ti
    Latest Version of Windows
    All Drivers up to date

The only conclusion i can come up with is that when I black screened my FPS was uncapped for some reason and overheated my GPU, which normally isnt an Issue cuz I cap the FPS, so I don't know if the Black Screen bugged something out or not.

    • How much Watts is your PSU outputting?

    • What cooling system do you have? Is it working as intended? Does it feel like it's cooling?

    • What type of GPU do you have?

Computer shutting down might be caused by multiple conditions including overheating, on not enough power being supplied to the components.

  • I have been having the same issue the game locking up and having to do a hard reset on the game, I have had it reset my whole system, this game doesn't run in complete full screen I have notice most likely what is the cause to this, I have top of the line PC 3080 with I7 10th gen 32gb ram and this is the only game that does this also been running into a lot of other players saying the same thing
