On the Sea of Thieves news page on Steam you can see the new ship that we saw in the trailer is in the overworld and not the sea of the damned. This could mean that we're getting a 5-8 player ship with the next update.
New Ship Confirmed?
As it was already pointed out to me, Jack will be a helpful NPC during the Tall Tales (like 5th crew mate). If rumors of these Tall Tales taking part in "personal" Sea of the damned server is true, then it then wouldn't effect the balance in any way and having the Black pearl as 5 men ship during the tall tale wouldn't be to far fetched.

It wouldn't be, but its still far from meaning we're just getting a bigger ship

Hope we who are 2 or three man cres can play the tall tales, if it's only galleons im gonna bash the poopie out of this.

I don't get why people are so thirsty for a bigger ship. The game's balanced around the 3. Servers and the game can barely handle multiple crews on a variety of the 3 ships on the seas, mixed with megs, skullships, krakens, forts, volcanos etc.. as is
They're not adding even more to that load, and forcing themselves to have to rebalance literally everything

Also IF they ever add a new ship it sure won't be one with cannons below deck where other ships aren't even able to spot or snipe cannoneers.
