Ahoy mateys and gather round.
After 18 months away I found myself awaking once again in the tavern on Dagger Tooth. The world was as I remembered and yet, different at the same time: factions now wanted me to sail under their banner and earn more rewards, a fearsome orange cloud in the shape of Flamebeard hung in the sky and there was a new person selling exotic animals that I could take with me on my journeys.
Following a pleasant sail working for the merchants with a couple of old crewmates I fell upon a book whilst opening a Gold Hoarder vault. I asked what this was and was told of a pirate now gone, but not forgotten.
Intrigued a few days later I ventured in search of more books, having seen in my commendation log there were plenty out there. With the help of another longstanding crewmate and fellow Boatswain we found a few more, killed a Meg and a Skelley crew only to be sunk by Karen! What a morning's sailing that was.
Later in the evening the same two crewmates from my first return voyage offered me a place with George from the Kraken on one of their Galleons and offered to show me where Glitterbeard's treehouse was. Having found his books I was intrigued to discover this final secret and see the final book for myself.
I shan't spoil the details, but what a wonderful send-off we had for Glitterbeard: 8 pirates playing in absolute harmony!
What has this set of voyages and pondering Glitterbeard's journals whilst back on the Sea of Thieves taught me?
- Friends you make here are made for life - like true family they may not always be available, you may fall out - sometimes irreparably, but all the same they have changed you
- It's not always about the loot, the thrill of the chase, the clash of swords or the rewards - often the simplest pleasure can be sailing with friends and the belly laughs, tears and anger that come from it
- Glitterbeard was a fine pirate and it is a true shame I never met him (as far as I can remember) in those first two year's of voyages
- What a time to come back to the sea and what a world we have to enjoy at our fingertips
The folks who I sail or have sailed with will know who they are and the way they have touched this old pirate's life. To them I thank them. To you I say this:
There'll be cheering and calling.
No more squabbling and brawling
When we have the wind in our sails.
Fair winds and calm seas to you all! Enjoy tomorrow's update!
The mods, deckhands and boatswain will be watching for lost souls to help where we can.
