SOT is using all 16 Gigs of Vram at 1080P

  • Not sure what's going on, I noticed this yesterday as well but just ignored it figuring maybe other things were using it. Playing it again this morning and nothing else running aside from discord and SOT is using all my VRam on my 6800XT.

I'm playing at 1080P as well, according to the website even at 4K it should only be 8 gigs needed.

I'm not having any performance issues, just think it's strange it's using so much VRam.

I'm using the gamepass version, not sure if that makes much of a difference.

    Thank you everyone.

  • @warheaddesignz the version that you use should make no difference - PC is PC so it's effectively the same install, just a different distribution and DRM method.

I can leave the actual PC stuff to the PC users though. Hope you get a little help soon matey!

  • @warheaddesignz
Sadly i have no idea why your install is doing this might want to go ahead and submit a support ticket here: https://support.seaofthieves.com

@sshteeve there is slight differences in the two installs (steam vs ms store) both in install size and surrounding framework, which is also why there is bugs that can be present in one but not the other

  • Yeah I was going to, but any time I select an option it takes me straight to the this page https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/games-apps/browse#Sea-Of-Thieves . So figured this is where to mention it as there's no bug reporting on that page lol.

Like when I select an option, it briefly shows the form to fill out for like a quarter of a second then loads that page up.

  • @callmebackdraft This is very true indeed, I could never get GPU power from the Steam version that I could from the MS Store version.

But for ease of updates I stuck with the Steam version regardless!

  • Hmm, that's really strange. In my 8GB GPU it never maxes (and I have everything at max). The screenshot you provide shows Sailor's Grave. Do you know if it happens elsewhere? If not, it might be a problem with Sailor's Grave

  • @warheaddesignz DDU drivers to remove any corruption due to persistent driver installations. Clear both Intel/AMD drivers before restart.

  • @eggamer13 Yeah it happened yesterday in the normal playing world areas.
@bizi-betiko I'm not entirely sure what DDU drivers means or how to clear drivers.

Do you mean uninstall drivers and re-install?

One thing I noticed once I turned the game off, I wonder if there's a memory leak that happens, because when I turned the game off, nothing else was running and still had 8 gigs of GFX Memory eating away for 15 minutes, then I restarted.

  • @warheaddesignz

    Display Driver Uninstaller

It's best to clear all drivers when you wipe using DDU (Intel/AMD/Nvidia) before you restart so that you can install all fresh drivers with no corruption. Using DDU on AMD GPU's seems to be the best solution for excessive memory usage, as your VRAM should clear itself.

It appears that the Steam version may have a memory leak, but I also have an aggressive overclock with very tight timings...
