Signal Flares

  • I think a neat feature could be signal Flares, they come in a variety of colours. Red, Green, Blue.

    Each colour could symbolise something:

    • Red means I need help.
    • Green means I want to form an alliance.
    • Blue could mean something else (I wanna trade??).

The flares could be visible from all over the map and last roughly 5 minutes with a 15 minute cool down (so players can't spam them).

I love player interaction in this game and this would help facilitate that! Also these flares could be used to create traps/ambushes adding another layer of treachery to the seas.

    Thoughts?

  • You could also just raise the reapers mark flag from your flag box.

If anyone wants to help, alliance, or PvP they’ll see you and go to you.

  • @aribalam yes you can, but that sends a very clear message to other players.

I'm new and have no idea what this flag means.

Or I'm new and I wanna fight.

  • Wow... I just thought of this last night for alliances and just made a post about it before seeing this.

  • Red means I need help.

Green means I want to form an alliance.

Blue could mean something else (I wanna trade??).

You can do most of these already.
    Need Help? Open Mic/Chat-Text
Form Alliance? Raise the Alliance flag
    Again, Open Mic or Chat-Text

Flares...What about shooting off a cannon ball? Fireball for War, CurseBall-Green for Peace, Curseball-Purple for Allaince, Blunderbomb for Back Away.

  • Cool idea. Flares have been suggested before, but I never really loved it since the flintlock (and now the tridents) can act as a pretty good signaling flare for your crew, but having it be visible from very far away is the game changer.

  • You have firebombs, don't you?

if you need attention, shoot a firebomb in the opposite direction from the ship you're trying to signal. Firing in the opposite direction an ancient signal of peaceful intention upon the waves. The firebomb is just really easy to see from a distance of many cables. If you need to have particular signals mean particular intentions, set up a code with your other crews or just use discord.

  • I like the idea it would be useful when you’re on a large island and get separated from your crew and can’t find them

  • Seeing alot of replies ignoring the fact that the purpose of the mechanic is to signal ships that are way beyond the horizon and on the other side of the map.

Pistol shots, cannonball spam, alliance flags, and firebombs all work fine if the other ship is within range (although sailing up to them spamming WERE FRIENDLY works much better...)

BUT this idea is to communicate with people literally on the other side of the map that are out of sight

You're not supposed to be able to do that. Though I suppose if you wanted to, you could just use your recent player list, and send them a party invite...
