Season 5, lower AI spawn rates

  • Season 5 has incredible value to single player ships with the new bury treasure and donate map concepts, while also being able to go and find other pirates treasures with the quest system. This can be an amazing feature to hop on while my crew is busy and do a few fun puzzle maps or make my own. This new mechanic is completely obliterated with the AI spawns on islands in the game. I functionally can't do the new quest system as a single player now with how many ads spawn on the map. Digging and burying is a non combat mechanic in the game, surrounded with infinite spawning super sea creatures on your back forcing you to stop doing the new stuff and fight them, to then have about 3 seconds to look at a map or pick up your chest to bury it for another 5 rounds of ads to spawn. Please lower the AI spawn rates once you have cleared an island. Make some kind of 5 minute timer. Stop the islands from resetting as a punishment when going on your ship to restock or use the cannons. Literally anything than the infinite spawning going on right now. Being able to experience this update would be wonderful.

  • Try doing an Athena voyage and get back to me. Spawn rate is fine for non-Athena activities, and a little extra pressure during. I solo BTW...

  • @frankthedolphin this actually isn’t accurate. In spent a fair amount of time on shipwreck bay trying to get anything to spawn to check out Ammo pouches. Then I’ve found a very busy small island that allow me to farm siren gems non stop.

  • The spawn system, in my experience works like this:

Arrive at an island and it seems to set a Rate for that visit. This rate is either essentially nothing, normal spawns, or never ending spawns. It also picks a focus on either Skeletons, Phantoms, or Ocean Crawlers.

The key to this is it being based on the island visit. If you find that you get never ending spawns, sail away to another nearby island and then back again. The rate will probably be different with a different focus. Granted, you might have another never ending spawns situation, but you can always try again.

That is what I experience ever single time I play the game for the last while. I suspect that it is some kind of bug in the spawn system based on how Patch notes talk about fixes for it being applied, but I personally kind of like it as it means you kind of never know what an island will be like when you first arrive which keeps things fresh for me.

  • Ugh. I swear players just trying every trick and complaint just to make the online world more of a pve world.

See him saying “single player”? Yeah no. The world isn’t for us to control. You think those skeletons want you on the islands? Touching there loot? Or those ocean crawlers? They are told to kill land walkers by the siren queen.

Can’t reduce the spawn rate without making the islands dead like the sea of the damned.

  • Uhhh, exaggeration much?

  • I remember when islands used to have periods of quiet, actual quiet where you could listen and take in the ambient.

That's gone now a lot of the time.

I too think enemies spawn way too frequently.

I don't need to kill something every 2 minutes. Sometimes I just want calm.

I think they mean solo, which is still just as bad. If the devs wanted us to play solo, we'd have an exclusive one man ship smaller than a Sloop. Then again, they would also fix open crew, but that's a different topic. This game is designed for 2-4 players, not 1, and the encounters are based on that.

If anyone still wants a single player pirate game, there's Assassins Creed Black Flag.

  • @mrat13
The sloop is made so that it can be sailed solo. The wheel, sails, and anchor are accessible from the same place. A second player just means that you don't have to leave the wheel area to go fix or fire the cannons.

And the Galleon could be sailed with 3 people, but they still introduced the Brigantine. The ship balance is designed around them being sailed with a max crew. If you sail solo, then you are playing in a way that hasn't been accounted for (or else they'd have made a 1 person ship), so any problems that occur are becuase of that, and the fastest way to fix it is by playing with more people.

I agree, but to say that the devs don't want/account for solo players is quite a stretch.

  • @frankthedolphin I welcome spawn rates. I actually would like to see more island PVE encounters. I don’t voyage much so random surprising situations amuse me. I have no problem burying treasure.

  • I've suggested this in the past but my idea for this is not to tinker with spawn rates anymore either way but to introduce a somewhat common item that we will call bait

bait will be a trickster device that one can find and throw it in an area to attract the enemies to it and away from other areas for a set amount of time

I believe it would make the game significantly more fun and less annoying

and someone get some ghostbuster traps for those phantoms because I am sick of them.

now that I think about it again I think there could be a little crafting added that incorporates the fireworks/flares to where it keeps them busy for a few minutes not unlike how skelly captains keep them busy

  • @wolfmanbush

Got the big red OC to take out an entire gold skelly bounty for us yesterday 😁

They didn't plan on having a single player option at all but enough people complained so we have solo options. You can solo a galleon, but I wouldn't recommend it...

  • @mrat13 Sloop was never designed to be solo, in fact during early testing you couldnt even play solo, but due to high demand theyve made it as an option.
