Individual Ships/Ship Variants

  • This would be a massive game change. Im only new to the game, but I think it would bring even more players.

Instead of selecting a crew size and ship that is given to you. You actually own ships (That save what was in their storage when stowed away). When you lose that Ship, you've lost it forever. Just set a maximum crew size and players can choose their ship based on how many friends they are with.

Example: Have a Dockyard/Ship Storage where you can store/purchase ships. Every player starts with 5 Brigantines and Galleons. If you have your Galleons sunk in battles, you only have your Brigantines left to get out of storage. But you could buy another Galleon (for gold) or steal one from another player.

But what if you run out of ships you may ask. Well the Sloon is free, so you can still use that to make the money to buy a ship or steal a player ship.

Also would be nice one day to see something like a 1 - 3 cannon Sloon, 4 cannon Brig and up to 8 cannon Galleon. Those could be variants that could cost more or less to buy at the Dockyard/Ship Storage.

Anyway, like I said. Im new. So love it or hate it, that's my input.

Overall feedback - Decent game, quite fun at times. However, can see myself getting bored of always starting with nothing and only having collection of cosmetics to show for all my work.
Fun game, but wish I could play with all my mates instead of just 4.

  • No. No. No! Paying for bigger ships would be iritating for veterans, people who don't play by themselves, and Swabbies who sink because they never heard of repairing the ship. Plus which pkayer would pay for the ship? If you pay for a galleon in a open crew, trolls within the crww might come along and attempt some inside sabotage. Toxic people would sink you so you waste your gold. Hardcore PvEers would advocate even harder for PvE servers (And would now have a vaild reason to). Scuttling would waste money. Fresh spawn sinking would happen all the time. Newbies who want to sail with their friends would sink more than the amount of gold they can make. The Sea of Thieves would become the Sea of Trash and would die.

Also, the galleon already has 8 cannons and brig has 4 cannons. Plus buying better ships gives an unfair advantage to the crew with gold.

No offence man, but this isn't a good idea, and i hope it will never be added to the game.

  • @sanscoot7 your idea made me wonder about implementing NFT in sea of thieves and how it would effect the game.

  • Rare never wants players to be at an unfair advantage. That’s why you can’t change how many Cannons each ship has, or move barrels and such around the ship.

Making it so players could buy better ships defeats the purpose of everyone being on a even playing field. And having 4 or more players on a smaller ship type would be completely broken. It’s hard enough sinking a well duoed sloop, imagine what 4 people would be like. They’d be invincible!

As for why there aren’t any bigger ships at the moment, I believe it’s for a couple reasons. Reason one being that the Sea of Thieves world is made around the Galleon being the largest ship. If we have a ship even larger than that I feel the world would need to be made bigger, which isn’t possible at this moment in time.

Reason two would be balance. A well manned sloop can currently take on a galleon. If there was a bigger ship with a larger crew than no matter the skin of the galleon, the sloop would lose nine times out of ten.
