Help with Kegs

  • Greetings Buccaneers, I have been playing this game for a bit, I typically play on a sloop or brig with my friends. Both of them are board happy and often leave me to defend the ship. I am fine with this but I don't know how to counter when some experienced with gunpowder kegs gets on my boat. They have never dealt with it and try to offer advice but i typically explode... What I try to do is anchor the boat and then jump overboard. But I want to be able to deny it more effectively. Thanks for any feedback

  • Unless they consistently get results by boarding/leaving the ship they are not helpful to combat

Focus on naval and keeping the crew maintaining naval and defense until enough pressure is put on the foe

keep distance, people get too close

kegs get on board because of luck or predictable/lack of movement. They might get lucky from time to time but don't give them predictability with lack of/movement

once they are on board it's a second by second choice by choice situation where there is no universal answer for all players

keep people on board unless they get results, naval, pressure, more pressure, then focus on boarding and finishing the job
keeping people being productive on the ship allows you to prevent and react more efficiently

people leave the boat because it's fun and less effort but unless they get results regularly they are sabotaging their own ship with higher risks

  • If a player is approaching your ship using kegs, they may not be experienced.

The ideal is to always keep an eye around and shoot the keg when the player is far away. If he manages to get your stairs you can still kill him without the keg exploding.

Even if he gets on your boat with the keg, there's still time to kill him and get far enough away or just blow the fuse. Many players drop the lit keg anywhere and run, they don't expect you to blow the fuse. After that just kill the enemy and blast the keg away from your ship.

Although, depending on where the keg is, it's better to stay away and then fix the boat, usually players who wear kegs die along with the explosion.
