Gold Hoarder Quest Type SUGGESTION

  • So i was playing through that legend of the sunken kingdom quest for 50 doubloons and i think that could make for a fun quest type for the Gold Hoarders, with some tweaks.

The idea is that one of the gold hoarders has lost one of their fabled keys and they need someone they trust to go find it and bring it back.

You'd start the voyage with one of those special compasses but this one isn't working quite as it should. The idea is that you have to travel to places the key has been to start empowering the compass so it can get it's "scent".

You'd be given a vague picture of an island and have to find the location that's on it, once you find the spot you'd take out the compass and hold it out, the effect for completing a riddle would play, wind rustling, mystical sounds, maybe a gem of the compass would fill with ghostly light... etc etc.

Once you've done that a few times the compass would be fixed and you'd follow it until you find where the key was taken.

As far as where the key would be... i really like the idea of it being hidden in a trapped cave much like the art of the trickster tall tale. Where you have to dodge and weave through a bevy of traps before finally picking up the key from a pedestal.

Once the key is picked up you'd have a time limit before the cave entrance is sealed and you'd have to race back through the trapped area and make it out alive with the key.

As soon as you picked up the key the voyage was completed.

Once you have the key you have a few options. You can sell it back to the gold hoarders as promised for a substantial reward. 10-50k (Considering it'd be the only reward for doing the quest... it has to be a big amount.)

Or you can take a risk and use it to open a few chests and take all the loot inside and perhaps get less than if you just sold the key.

The key would have durability and break after a certain amount of uses.

You have literally described vault voyages outside of your ending with opening actual chests with the key.

Not really. For one the compass doesn't work until you find all the spots in the vague pictures. IE there could be a picture of a massive bird statue and using your knowledge of how the islands look you have to narrow it down. (Some of the tall tales had this, where it showed blurry pictures outlining distinct places) They could even use those wooden cutout boards to get you to the correct spot.

Two It's not a vault as there are no puzzles really involved in completing it. It's more of an indiana jones style run where your ducking and weaving past traps to get to a pedestal with a key on it at the end.

I will admit it's similar but it's definitely not the vault voyages. It's different enough to justify it's inclusion.

Also, let's be honest. It wouldn't be the first time Rare implemented similar quests for their trading companies. IE Cargo runs and Animal crates. They're very similar quests with only slight differences imo.

  • doing vaults is way easier and you get more rewards…this idea just wouldnt be worth it

  • @madfrito99

Listen, i'm not a game designer. But they are, i'm sure they'd be perfectly capable of balancing this idea so the rewards are in line with the vaults. Also, you would have no clue how easy or not it would be to do until it was added. xD

Besides, i don't always play to be rewarded with gold. Honestly i'm getting to the point where gold is becoming more and more worthless to me and i'm increasingly just wandering around without an emissary or a quest up. I just think this kind of quest would be fun to do.

  • Sounds cool to me! But, you should add some more action, because it kinda seems like a quest that is cool once than it becomes very boring.

That basically sums up my exp with all the GH quests tbh. xD

It's really hard to add more action to GH quests without making it feel like an OoS quest.

Like you can't add skeletons cause then it'd be too similar to OoS.

Shipwrecks WOULD be cool for GH but they're already a thing with the MA with the lost shipment voyage so i'd be stepping on that trading companies toes.

I'm honestly not sure where they can take the GH rn.

I'll mull it over some more and see if i can't come up with something though. Maybe something with cursed treasure...
