personal/crew vaults

  • I think it would be cool if we were able to use the vaults scattered around the world for personal/crew use. My idea is that you could open vault doors with a shanty, like the legend’s door in the taverns. The vault would be empty the first time you open it. You could then put your loot in and close it again. No one would be able to open your vault but you and no matter what server you go to if you open your vault all your stashed loot would be in it ready for turning in for profit. The problem I see with this is when a crew puts stuff in a vault then whoever “owns” the vault could refuse to open it for the rest of the crew and then sell it all on their own. I think this could be solved by having “crew” vaults that are opened by multiple people. When the vault is opened to store the loot, the game remembers who was playing the shanty to open it. Then to open the vault for retrieval everyone must be playing the shanty. So that the number of vaults the game had to store there could be a system in place that if a particular vault hasn’t been used in a certain amount of time, maybe a month, other players could purchase a voyage from the gold hoarders that leads to the vault. Every vault could also have a key inside of it that the crew could take out of the vault and that key could be used to open the vault by anyone in the game. This could either be taken to the quest board or could be buried and the map placed on the quest board so that you could leave big stashes for other players. This could also be simplified to one new vault specifically for this purpose that is at thieves’ haven as a nod to the Pirate Lord. It could also be good if one crew mate’s internet goes down, the rest of the crew could stash the treasure till the next time they play so that they still get the rewards for turning it in. Overall, I think it would just be cool to have a sort of “base of operations” that could be a haven where you can stockpile a massive hoard of treasure, like all pirates want to do.

  • I don't particularly see a use for a place used to store things that you'll necessarily sell later, especially since the loot isn't yours until you sell it. If there was a way to break into this safe at any time, it might be interesting.

  • @targasbr I agree that it would be cool to be able to break in to a vault somehow. I don't know how it would work but it would be nice. I personally think that it would be cool to have a large stash of treasure. You could also build it up on shorter play sessions and then sell it on a longer one when you have earned a higher emissary level for the highest profit.

  • Seems a bit pointless having a vault to store loot in when you can easily just sell it or bury it. I feel like if this was to get added, almost nobody would bother using it just like burying treasure.

The problem here is that we have a lot of outposts scattered around the map, so a safe to have treasures I don't know if it would be ideal because I think the sale would be more suitable in this case, but maybe one to store resources, however, this one that could be broken into.

  • @killzone1401 I think that if you could save maps between play sessions that would be a better way to do it. I don't know if you can actually do that, if there is a way to get maps from previous sessions I would love to know how. I haven't used them much so I don't know all the ins and outs

All that does is create a duplication exploit for crews greater than one. Each person on a participating crew would each have the map from that session available to them on their next, regardless of whether they were crewed together again or not. So imagine a crew of 4 doing this with a gilded voyage - each would have access to the voyage the next time they logged in and multiplied by 4 if they don't play with each other.

It also gives crews a way to combat log - that is avoid combat in order to keep their mission intact. So if someone was doing their gilded voyage and got set upon by another crew, they could just log off then come back later and finish the voyage - this is not what the game is about. Combine the two problems and you can see the issue with this idea and how it isn't going to work.

No, it is best to keep all the voyages session based due to the myriad ways it can be exploited.

  • Hide your loot, bury it, keep it safe with the merfolk, or just turn it in - you already have lots of options!

  • This would be a great idea, the only thing I would want to see differently would be to not add it because that part breaks some of SoT's core game mechanics. Other than the whole idea it is great.

  • @philbert1138 Im a pirate not a commercial mover.

With Sea of Thieves being a session based game this mechanic seems a bit off. If it were an mmo maybe.

How ever I wish I couldopen and close the vaults for cinematics

  • @dlchief58 that's a good point
