Who is using the quest boards?

How do you use the quest board? If you don’t, why not?

I don't use it...why? Because I got the achievements and conmendations done...
I look sometimes, if there are maps from other players...but about 2 weeks after this feature got added, i never saw anymore any map posted by other crews

Someone said in another thread, let us post maps from our radial, without bury that stuff...

  • Personally I saw this coming from a long time ago. No pirate will ever think about others, there isn't an incentive to do so. It's. dumb idea that many people wanted because of the idea/ rumor that real pirates would hide their treasure... they didn't (Except one, and it wasn't even hard to find). That and the fact many players didn't want their gold stolen and thought this was going to help them out, lol. They should have made a new voyage type for the merchants called "Contracts" In which you get payed gold for hiding or relocating certain treasures from shipwrecks in specific areas or something. No pirate would ever bury their loot with intent to give it to someone else, in fact, this is true even compared to today. Would you hide your money in a safe, and willingly give the combination of the safe in a riddle for others to solve it? Of course not, that's ridiculous.

I’ve noticed the quest boards lately have been filled with server generated maps.

I rarely see player generated maps anymore.

I hope this mechanic gets more wind in its sails…

I don't use them because the twice I've tried taking a map off of there, it lead to a low-ball skull and a low-ball chest.

Basically it's absenteeism griefing :) Not sure how they did not see this coming.

  • Honestly I just found the function pointless. Never understood why it was so often requested. Beyond some commendations (most of which I've not done) there seems little use in using it.

Why bury, when you can sell?

Because it's faster to bury than to sell. Some pirates may be out of time for IRL reasons and decide that it's not worth taking the time to sell, especially if they don't really need it (like with high-rolling pirates). Besides, contrary to popular belief, there are still some altruistic sailors out there. 😊

  • I still do not have PL so why would I burry the treasure for someone else.

  • @wdw1011971 Submitted maps actually award full reputation for the items.

  • @klutchxking518 None of mine have so far

  • @musicmee Hello, I have a related question and I hope you know the answer.
Do the maps I provide in quest board appear for anyone since I post them on board, or is there random server restriction or time delay?

I am streaming and I like to bury ancient treasures, including Chest of Legends and post the map on board quest, so that my stream viewers can get the map. I'd like it to be the reward for watching me, but I am unsure they can really get their hands on it.

I post several maps, so only those who watch the stream know which one leads to ancient treasures. Obviously anyone can get them, but not everyone know the value in advance and pick the precious one intentionally.

They appear on the quest boards on the same server as you're on. You can see your own quests on the board (until someone picks one up obviously).

Only when they're on the same server as you. Thus highly unlikely - perhaps give your ship to one (or more) of your viewers and they can pick up the voyage and dig it up ? You don't even have to put it on the quest board to do that, but don't let that stop you (/me jots down the name of JohnCourtier in case I see it on the quest board 😎).

  • If I get too lazy to recover my buried treasure (I tend to bury portions of my winnings if I anticipate losing my ship in the near future for whatever reason), I'll slap it on a quest board.
But I don't really take maps from it.

Why bury, when you can sell?

Well, I think it's also there as a tool for keeping some of your loot on an island in a safe spot. It kind of acts as a way to mitigate risk.

There needs to be a better incentive for experienced players who aren't really concerned about risk to bury their loot as well.

I posted a while ago that some rare pieces of loot should increase in value when they have the following actions taken upon them:

    • being buried,
    • and then being retrieved by another crew,
    • and then doing some action that would usually increase Emissary Grade.

Obviously not every type of loot should be capable of this, but certain types.

When these special pieces of loot are finally handed in, everyone who contributed to increasing its value (online and offline) gets an equal and large payout that is always greater than if they were to simply hand in the loot without going through this process.

This would encourage crews to actually 'pay it forward' by burying and posting this kind of loot either on Quest Boards or by handing maps to crews that they trust.

Whenever I run emmisary, I pick up and turn in their exclusive loot, and any others I find, I bury and place on the board during my next visit to an outpost/seapost. This ensures that I finish my voyages faster, and help the community in the process.

    This is good,

Though I wish the game promoted this kind of behaviour without the use of maps and instead by encouraging crews of different Emissaries to trade loot when they see each other.

I have actually run 3-ship alliances using the big 3 Emmisaries: GH, OOS, and MA - we each had 1, and would trade our "alternative" loot when we all reached level 5. A great way to sail! 😁

  • Maybe they should add a System like the one in Elden Ring Multiplayer, when you are able to set a password to let other players play with you. This could be useful, so you could set a password with your friends or some discord members and if you set a map in the quest board they could see it on their servers.

This might be complex to program, so your loot will appear on their server, but I think it could be a nice incentive for communities and pirates to share their treasures and earn some gold.

Of course, if another crew sells your loot you should get at least half of the sell price. Again, I know this might be hard to program, but could be worth to increase the quest boards system.

  • I think I'm one of the few who still buries hoards and posts the quests to the board. For me it's just fun doing things like that, but for others I can see there really isn't a lot of incentive. It doesn't cross people's minds because so often the worst loot is burried, unless someone like myself is screaming at ships on the megaphone to check it cause I just burried multiple reapers bounties or whatever. xD

Keep a look out for my name on the board if you can!

Apologies for the necroposting if that is a thing.
