Ability to Capture Sea Forts

  • There should be an ability to Capture the new Sea Forts in the name of your crew, or faction, using it as a static basecamp separate from your ship. This base you would be able to spawn at AS WELL as your ship, making it an excellent checkpoint. You would also be able to store loot in the fort that if you keep in there long enough it deposits it, no outpost necessary! However, as the loot sits there any other incoming pirate could easily capture your fort and steal ALL the booty for themselves.

    No. Tools, not rules. I don't like the idea of diminishing the importance of outposts or making it even harder to steal loot (now already bad enough with burying and mermaid storing).

  • Capture the new Sea Forts in the name of your crew

    *Sail to Fort. Active or Not

    • if active, kill all phantoms.
    • Dock ship and set up cannons. Store Loot you have spent "hours" collecting.
    • Activate Mark of the Reaper flag
    • wait and prepare to "defend"

    Serious tho. Why? People can't defend themselves on a "Moving Fort" with Sails and cannons. What makes people think they can defend a Stationary Fort with cannons?
    frankly, I dont see anyone doing this often enough to even want the Dev to add it. Once you understand a Rowboat is Key to sneaking in at night and using Kegs...you can take the Fort with ease.

    Think of it this way. We have those Skeleton forts, basically the same thing. And yet..players are always caught off guard when a ship arrives and sinks them. Even tho it has towers with cannons and on land.

  • I think the majority of players want to see some PvP come from these forts, because quite frankly they are just more of the same. Shrines and Forts exist already and now we have the same thing with a new enemy type.

    I think you should be able to place an emissary flag in a cleared fort to receive a rep and gold boost for all relevant loot sold in that region

  • @burnbacon If not then what would separate the sea forts whatsoever from everything else? I see this is a major missed opportunity here. Also, I don't think one can do that so easily considering it's likely you have to capture a specific part of the fort to actually gain access to it.

  • I think they’re exactly what they need to be. A small addition for a quick play session. A place for larger crews to stock up supplies and get some loot. If you want to defend a fort keep the loot in the vault put up a reaper flag on the ship parked outside. Cook some food and wait. Adding in a way to earn more rep or gold by defending would not help the game. It would just turn into a tower defense game.

    The game is more than just a sweat show. Though most players feel like they need to prove they’re the best (no one cares). The game gives players a lot of opportunities to role play though most don’t want to which is fine. However when the game first released where some of the best interactions I’ve had in the game. Players wanted to role play and behave like pirates. I had a many of grogs in the taverns getting drunk and puking on others with our ships parked out front with no alliance flags (they didn’t exist yet). Just in the spirit of the game would players act cordial.

    You already have a objective to defend. Your ship when you reach grade V emissary. Even having the flag up makes you be on defense.

  • I think the sea forts should be able to be captured so you can place a companies emissary flag there to provide a bonus to hand ins for that company across that region.

    The advantage this would have is that you can get the grade V emissary bonus 3 times over, if you get 2 V flags, claim the two Fortress and hand in loot while you have another V flag.

    On paper this sounds OP, but pulling it off would be quite hard. The ownership of the fortress would be removed if all the relevant emissaries leave the region or the game and it returns to a ghost fort

    Obviously this would need some balancing, but the greater reward may incentivize emissaries to work together and even encourage PvP between factions

  • I like the idea of being able to capture a fort.

    Personally, if they allowed us to capture a fort, i'd like it to provide either a 10-20% loot turn in bonus for the region it's located in or just provide a flat amount of gold per day/night cycle that you hold the fort.

    Also, if we could capture a fort it should definitely appear on the map as being player controlled, maybe other players could attack the fort and take down your flag and sell it at an outpost for a good amount of gold and rep to any of the factions.

  • I would love that actually and it makes a lot of sense to be able to do that, honestly it would make it easier
