Sail Boat

    I would like to see a new rowboat type that has no oars - instead it would have a short mast, small sail, and maybe even a crow's nest and flag box (with bell). It would be unique in that you wouldn't need to row it and it would offer a better view above the waves, but it would be harder to slow down and stop (no anchor), would be more visible upon the waves, cannot be docked to a ship, and is suceptible to chainshot or other hits to the mast and other visibility limitations. The sail will only have 2 ropes - 1 on each side; 1 is for raising/lowering the sail and the other is for angling the sail. The sail boat will turn with the rudder. This gives you 3 primary interaction points at the back of the boat to choose from for control (speed, acceleration, and turning ability), but you can only use 1 at any given time.

    It is, in every other respect, a standard rowboat (no harpoon or cannon variations - this would be a standalone 4th variant).

    Thoughts?

    Sure! Although i wonder how many people would use it. As you would be pretty visible, but also lack basic defence and the benefit of respawing on it like a normal ship

    I imagine it would be the rarest of all small boats, and is more for those who want to portray the castaway lifestyle. Perhaps, the sail will help in terms of speed? Kind of like a rowboat to the max. 😅

    I even toyed with the idea of a rowboat that had a mini-map table, at the cost of 2 seats. 😊

    I saw a SoT video ages ago and it had something like this that could work.

    If you sink, your ship respawns with half the resources.

    If you sink again, it respawns with none.

    If you sink a third time, you respawn witha rubbish sailboat, and you can trade it for an actual one at an outpost.

    There are loads of pirates who don't use their ship for various reasons when they are sailing:

    • Fishing and want to be left alone
    • Working on photographs for events and contests
    • Hiding from Reapers

    I think this would be a cool idea for those willing to risk it, but yes, the lack of respawn would be an issue. My point is there are pirates out there who would use it.
