Multiple Character Slots, or Prestige

  • For people who want to play the game long term and have a sense that there can always be something to do, I recommend these two things. Multiple character slots, and a prestige system. Multiple character slots is straightforward, just allow players to have more than one character per Sea of Thieves account. Custom names can be optional, but for purposes of reporting bad behavior, it can be displayed as like this:

    Pirate Name
    (account name in smaller text)

As for a prestige system. I think that once a player hits 75 on a faction, they should be able to 'prestige' it. Where it will reset back to zero and the player can get a benefit. Such as a percentage increase to gold for that faction's loot. Or maybe even special cosmetics down the line.

  • A prestige system just sound like a level cap increase but with extra steps

  • I'd rather have that then a level cap with no extra steps

  • I can get behind having multiple pirates

And a level increase would be good

  • @arrowsight ahoy matey!

Why a new character though? Surely there is always something more for you to do with your main character?
I have a second character, but it is a second xbl account I created for that purpose. He literally only gets used for comical effect and specific reasons, as I don't level it and when there is loot to be handed in, I would rather Sshteeve get it instead.

I suppose the journey to Legend would be fun again, to see how different it would be this time round, but I just don't know how many folk would really use it... I could be completely wrong though!

As for prestige - I am neither her nor there on the idea. There is still plenty to do in the month with deeds, Plunder Pass and now the new shorter adventures for those in that frame of mind to need a constant stream of new tasks.

  • As long time dedicated pirate who has maxed out all of his levels, I say no to both. I enjoy my pirate and can't wait for the level cap increase for Athena that is inevitably coming.

  • @sshteeve

The reason you made a second XBL account is why I think we should have multiple character slots to begin with. I don't really see any particular downside to having multiple character slots.

As for prestige, theres also very few downsides. If you don't lose anything when you prestige over. It's not like stuff is taken away from you. And people still get the satisfaction of feeling like they are leveling their factions. So for me, im at 75 with Gold Hoarders and Order of Souls. I see little to no reason to throw on their emmisaries and go do their stuff now. If a prestige system is put in, I can enjoy doing it over again AND keep what I already earned.

Thats the beauty of it. You dont have to redo it all. Make the prestige system something entirely voluntary. Wanna stay at 75 for everything? Totally fine. Wanna re-level them again without having to make a whole new XBL account? You can do that too!

You know that Rare will add additional cosmetic options for prestige levels, and that means those of us who are collectors will be forced to go through with it even if we don't want to. If Rare doesn't do this, then it'd be pointless; if they do go through with it, then it muddles the water because you'll never really know just how far a pirate has come along - for example, are they a level 4, or a prestige 100, level 4?

It's for all intents and purposes, simply easier to just add more levels and cosmetics as the Sea continues to grow.

  • @galactic-geek

You could say the same about cosmetics from the plunder pass, or new waves of cosmetics that come out. And there can always be indicators as to how far a pirate's come. Maybe rings on the fingers for example.
