Help Section/Prompt for Various Beard-Errors

  • Wanted to suggest a little pop-up for when you get a beard error in-game. Pulled up by a button prompt or by a click and providing information or general advice for that error! This is mainly because of how generally un-helpful beard errors tend to be and how they can even have the same messaging for when servers are fully down, intentionally or otherwise, or if you just need to relog your game.

It would pop up as a little button on the corner of the pop-up error message, interacted with 'TAB' for more information on why that error might be happening.

A pop-up reading "The Sea of Thieves Services are temporarily unavailable. Please try again" with the beard error of Lavenderbeard. A small red question mark symbol in the corner.

Interacting with that ^ would slide up an information panel about that error, in this case, Lavenderbeard, offering basic potential fixes that one could do, as well as a place to go for direct help (the support link):

A smaller panel above, including general bullet-point information and suggestions on how to fix that error, such as "Signing out of Xbox Live" and providing a support link.

These responses being different case-by-case obviously. But with the current ability for in-game notifications of upcoming maintenances and downtimes, info can be changed on the fly if need be. Such as if there was a region-wide outage in certain places, those errors could be updated with that correct information:

A new error message box of the beard error 'Kiwibeard'. The help section informing about inaccessible login servers for EU players.

Or the obvious example being when there is a current Maintenance ongoing (which.. for some reason doesn't have a consistent separate beard error, nor any sort of special messaging, so people assume most beard errors are for server maintenance...):

A new error message box with the help section informing about current maintenance with a start time, no end time, and advising to look at their social channels for new information.

Generally, feel like this is VERY needed and something I'm a little surprised we don't already have. There is some current framework already there for internal messaging and would mean that messages such as these could get updated when issues arise. It would just mean getting all the currently existing beard errors their own set of details, advise and messaging, though overall it's good if they can just link to the support site for help.

Let me know what you think! Just threw it together and added some notes to the earlier pictures for help! ♥

  • Agreed with everything about this post.

  • Very cool !
    I totally agree

  • entirely unnecessary, just provide a link to #the-tavern which can already answer all your lavenderbeard queries :)

    +1 great idea

  • Yeah no I hope to see this actually become a thing in at least a year from now this is far too perfect not to add.

  • I don't see a reason for the slideout, it should display the general error information automatically if it's going to display it at all. The slideout is just an extra button press to get to the information.

  • 100% agree this would be very helpful

Aye, good point. Just another hurdle for people I suppose.
Like with ones for maintenance, or current outages and server issues, definitely should pop-up by default, though with many that are quite complicated and unique cases, could be an overload of info all at once. But aye, definitely agree!

  • Let's make it happen! This is brilliant! 🧡

  • I love it! I'd understand that for some beard errors there is just no real info to give. For instance, sometimes when a server crashes or you lose connection to a server, you get an initial error, and when trying to get back in you might get another one.

But still, I believe for some (if not most) of the beard errors, something like this should be built!

  • @wsurftvveeds the #thetavern is a curse place to be…

  • @butterfinger750

It's the shadowy place.. y'must never go there!

  • @taaaamas ....heading to Tavern now..... 😈

  • @taaaamas @triheadedmonkey @butterfinger750

    Hehehehehehe
