Let's Discuss Opening the Chest of Legends ...

  • This would be amazing for enriching both PVE and PVP. I think it would be incredible to develop the ability to open chests ... specifically the Chest of Legends and Ancient Tribute Chest. See below... the mechanics would be similar to Ashen Chests, but the method much more involved.

    Opening the Chest of Legends:
With all of the events providing the ability to obtain the Chest of Legends, it is nowhere near as difficult, triumphant, or mystical as it used to be. The concept: once a player has obtained a Chest of Legends, they may go to the Mysterious Stranger (or someone else on the seas) to "register" that chest and purchase a Legendary Key Voyage. A player could not purchase a Legendary Key Voyage without first registering the Chest of Legends; this would be similar to turning it in, but the interaction would be with a different keystroke. They would then continue to have to keep the chest in their possession.

This Legendary Key Voyage would be 4+ chapters, with the last chapter providing the ability to uncover a key. Using the key to open the chest, a player would be able to discover a sum of gold, along with exclusive and rare, high value items only obtainable by opening a Chest of Legends ... it could be the Pirate Lord's private log books, mystical ancient runes, or something along those lines. For the Ashen Chest of Legends, there could be Ashen variants, maybe journals written by Stitcher Jim or Grace Morrow, maybe even the Gold Hoarder himself. You could then deliver all goods to the Mysterious Stranger, and each item would be very valuable, around 10,000 gold each (1.5x for Ashen variants) ... in theory, selling 3 items along with an empty Chest could net a player 35k - 45k Gold total (1.5x for Ashen). This would create incredibly dynamic gameplay and even allow further storyline development. PVP'rs would be put on the defense if the crew opts to do a key voyage to reap the incredibly rare and rich rewards, and PVE'rs would have the opportunity to reap rich rewards with high risk. If players didn't want to bother opening the Chest, they could turn into the Mysterious Stranger as usual.

TLDR: provide ability to open Chest of Legends: higher rewards, higher risk, lots of fun for all.

  • I feel like this attempt to trying to add more value to an already highly sought out item is on the same level of taking 3 left turns to take a right.

As additive of a voyage incentive this might be, I think this idea if executed, would first be widely used, and then, widely ignored. I'd rather get 10K from the Mysterious Stranger instead of staying out there with the most valuable item for Athena's Fortune Reputation grinding, all for a key to something worth more.

  • Or we could just plain open it without some 4+ chapter voyage, selling means for me that I’m either leaving the session or done for the day so I would just sell instead of opening, besides, we all know that when we open it the chest will “raiders of the lost ark” style shoot the ghosts of all the sweats who died trying to get one out of it and melt our faces off

  • What's the lore to what's in the chest?

  • Conceptually, I dig it.

I feel like it needs some deeper reward behind the items inside the chest, though. Turning one piece of loot into 3 only has value for so long unless they make gold..ya know..useful.

  • Pirate Lord Ramsey locked all of the chests for a reason, and only the Gold Hoarders have the keys. For these reasons, your idea doesn't fit the lore on a conceptual level.

Also, I think someone just really wants to steal a Chest of Legends... 😏

  • @galactic-geek Ramsey decided to lock the chests with a special metal in order to prevent greed. The gold hoarders have the keys only because Rathbone stole them from Ramsey.

It's not about the gold is about the glory!

  • @metal-ravage what's in the box?!?!!?

Is it free happy meal coupons or just some radioactive goo.. Maybe souls of dead pirates I wanna know....

To be fair, I haven't yet finished listening to the audio books. 😅

Hahaha ... I've got my thief title (did it solo so took a long time) but it's always fun stealing them... yea was not aware of the lore behind it, if they could conceptually tie it into the story that would be cool. I find it interesting that the Gold Hoarders have the keys, but you turn the chests into the Mysterious Stranger. Also agree with what someone else said -- create more rewards than just the gold (comms obviously and maybe cosmetics). The premise I really liked thinking about is that people would have the choice to get exclusive rewards/achievements ... this could apply to Ancient Tributes as well. Plus it's just fun to think about opening them up!
