Im big time stoopid and cant figure out HDR

  • I'm not sure how to use/get it, I am not at all familiar with this territory and simply don't know what to do or where to go. I know that there doesn't seem to be HDR support on pc but there is on Xbox, also for some reason some people have hdr calibration in their settings. This is probably a stupid thing to ask but I need help.

  • You need to turn on HDR on your Computer. You‘ll find the option in the system configuration settings, if your monitor is HDR-ready, of course. Simply type „HDR“ into the search-field at the left bottom of your screen. This will bring you to the setting menue.

But be warned: SoT looks great in HDR but gets a lot darker. 🙂

  • Aight thanks man, what do you mean by darker?

  • The colours look way better but the whole game gets darker. Therefore it gets a bit harder to see anything, especially at nighttime. This can be a slight disadvantage when it comes to PvP, because ships are harder to spot, too.

  • HDR was never really optimized on PC, unfortunately. I have messed around with different settings and with/without ELMB sync in the past.

On PC: With HDR at "normal" levels, night time is usually going to be too dark. You can increase saturation in the menu so that during night, everything comes alive and it is basically night-vision. After you turn on HDR in windows, there will be a tab in SOT menu for calibration. When it's day, you can just turn down HDR in menu so it isn't oversaturated. I find it clumsy but effective, and you can clearly see more on HDR at night than without IF you mess with it enough.
