So i’ve had this issue for a long time when i used to play on my xbox one s things just constantly became blurry, islands, ships and equipment, it made the game almost unplayable for me, i raised multiple support tickets about it over the years only to get the same generic response saying to restart my router or something but nothing fixed it, until I upgraded to the xbox series x early last year, everything was mostly fine again, occasionally my equipment would be blurry for sec but that was about it, until today’s Captaincy update, and all of the sudden it’s back, and just as bad as it was on my xbox one s, this time even my pirate cosmetics are blurry, i was wondering if others are experiencing this issue aswell since today’s update, and if so can this be fixed?
Some examples of what I’m talking about here https://i.ibb.co/gdyqtPK/BC794932-2614-4972-9-F9-D-6196-AF1-B87-A9.png
Everything is blurry.
The low grade textures are loaded for everything and then swapped out as higher resolution textures are streamed in. If everything loads quickly, you don't notice it. If loading is slow, then you'll see the blurry textures before the high res ones appear.
If the higher res textures aren't loading in this could indicate a bug that is preventing them from loading, your console is under load and can't load them in quick enough, or some other reason like hard drive is failing. I'd submit a support ticket so that Rare is aware of it if it's a bug of some kind.
IMO, they're aware of it, it's just a byproduct of their efforts to lower the load on the servers and the game. Not too long ago, they changed how sounds are loaded in, then they made it so NPCs at outpost only load when a player is near, and so on.
The lower your specs (hdd vs ssd, older console vs series x, and so on), the more noticeable it becomes : on my Series X, it's fine, on my old One S, i'm getting the same issues as OP, and yes, it tends to become unplayable here and there.
(also, it really seems like it depends on the overall server load, cos on One S, i'm sometimes able to play for hours without noticeable issues aside from the occasional spinning menu or slow icon load, and then i'll server merge or a galleon will server hop in or i'll finish an event, or get to an outpost, and everything switches back to low-res, never to return to normal)
@killzone1401 Like @D3ADST1CK said, it's an issue with how the server is streaming textures to your client. I am not sure how the new console architecture works, but until Rare is able to optimize the on-demand texture streaming you can free up some room on your device storage and clear your cache:
Exit Sea of Thieves
Select My games & apps - Select See all
Highlight Sea of Thieves
Manage game and add-ons - Scroll down to Saved data
Choose the Delete all button and confirm it
Wait for the process to complete and relaunch the game to check for the issue.
@bizi-betiko when i go to saved data I don’t see a delete all option, it just says no saved data yet
