Fort of Fortune Rework

  • Here's a concept to rework Fort of Fortune. I believe Fort of Fortune to be pretty lackluster as it is 100% recycled content and doesn't make much sense. Skelly Lords teaming with Ashen Lords on Skull Forts to protect Athena loot? I think this Rework could come alongside a general QoL update similar to Season 5.

The Skull Cloud is now a ghostly green, rather than the unfitting red crack that made no sense thematically.

When a Fort becomes active as a Fort of Fortune, the Forts atmosphere changes in a similar way to how Old Boot Fort got converted to Fort of the Damned.
These FoFs have an Athena style makover, all Braziers glow a ghostly green, Ghostly glows appear in-between wooden planks (like the glows out of a Chest of Legends).
An eerie fog around the Island, Sand turns greyish Purple. Certain structures are broken and float similarly to Ferry of the Damned.

Instead of regular Skeletons, Fort of Fortune now features bands of Phantoms to fight that spawn at small areas of the Fort. Once the group has been mostly defeat it spawns a miniboss Phantom that when defeated drops a small item used in the Main Buildings Ritual. Alongside these Phantoms, Ghostly Skeletons will be the new default enemy type that spawn around the fort. The Fort does not have traditional Waves like other Forts, instead your progress is measured by how close you are to starting the Ritual. The Bands of Phantoms spawn intermittently a short time after fully dispatching the previous group.

Overall you fight 12 Bands of Phantoms, After every 3 pieces that are added to the ritual, you encounter an old foe in a new spectral form. These bosses being Ghostly Briggsy, Ghostly Gold Hoarder, Ghostly Greymarrow and a Ghostly Ashen Lord. Each Boss Drops an Item placed on the Ritual in the main building. Once all 4 Items have been placed, as well as all 12 items from the Phantoms, the Ritual begins and summons the new boss. An Athena-Based brand new boss character with new attacks and new Music.

When Defeated this Fort has a mixture of Old, LoTV, and new Athena loot, as well as a new interactive loot (like Ashen Wind Skulls). This Item is designed to be the main flagship loot item for this event. Similar to a Chest of Legends. This Event does not award a Chest of Legends, it has been reused too much.

  • Yeah sounds ace...

My idea would be a very large dreadnought type ship that cruises about and you'll have to assault and board it to take it out... Like a moving mini raid to blow it's powder magazine etc.

  • @ancientbeast434, *WARNING SPOILERS(HEART OF FIRE BOOK) instead of a dreadnought boss, how about Flameheart’s makeshift fortress in the new Heart of Fire novel? Instead of your normal fort, it would be as described in the book and offer a hoard of loot from all trading companies. The longer it is up, the more NPCs loyal to his cause come to defend the fort on their ships. You would fight each ashen lord as a boss, but in an indoor setting that fits their character according to lore. Ex: Warden Chi would guard the prison cell area

  • I personally like FoF as they are right now. However, i am not against a rework either if it can satisfy the peeps that care about lores and all. I just don’t think it should be a very high priority right now in terms of dev time.

Green doesnt make sense, I be expecting "Sea of the Damned" then.

    sooo...basically just another FotD remake....

How about a new Fort that spawns up, But it a broken fissure/Rip between SotD and SoT and converts any Island/Fort and we as pirates must do what you suggested, put a ritual together to Seal or Block the gate and turn the island back to normal.

  • @lafrules my main issue with FoF is just that its completely recycled content and was the very first 3 month season. Same Skeletons on the same Islands with the same music, fighting the same bosses for the same loot. The point of Seasons having been to recycle less content, and as the first proper season was entirely recycled just really didn't sit right with me. Later seasons have done much better in terms of not recycling so it feels like its just because FoF was early. I think it deserves a Makeover.

I say Season 2 was the first proper season as Season 1 was effectively the last Monthly update, then we had the first 3 month wait into Season 2.

Well you're fighting Phantoms as well as 4 Ghost versions of Old bosses, Sea of the Damned is sort of the entire point.

    sooo...basically just another FotD remake....

Not at all, just because it has fog doesn't mean it is FoTD. Was Golden Sands like FoTD during Adventure 1-4? The mechanics of the fort are also entirely different. FoTD requires a ritual to begin, my FoF would be a natural spawn but feature an interactive ritual you partake in DURING the Fort itself.

    FotD remake...

Ghost Skeletons as in Phantom Coloured skeletons, not Flames of Fate, those are two seperate things.
What part of ''Bands of Phantoms'' is like FoTD? FoTD just has normal waves of Flames of Fate to fight and then ding new wave starts. Having to fight groups of Phantoms which then summon a Phantom Miniboss in sections of the fort, and then those are what progresses instead of a default ding new wave, that's entirely different.

    FotD....

Greymarrow therefore FoTD? You're just gonna ignore the other 4 bosses? The point is to fight old foes, Greymarrow being one of the biggest Skeleton Lords it would make absolutely no sense to just ignore him. The big difference here is that unlike all of his other encounters, he is NOT the main boss. These 4 Ghost Bosses would spawn every quarter through the Ritual and not have a set order, you could fight Greymarrow as the very first boss. The Sea of Thieves is evolving and old foes like him don't have the foothold like they used to.

How about a new Fort that spawns up, But it a broken fissure/Rip between SotD and SoT and converts any Island/Fort and we as pirates must do what you suggested, put a ritual together to Seal or Block the gate and turn the island back to normal.

This could very well be the Lore behind this FoF rework, with Flameheart now possessing more power, instead of creating permanent new small sea forts, he gathers a large amount of energy to open a temporary large rip into the SoTD and fully converts an existing Fort and overruns it with a ghostly presence.

The Reason i say FoF rework instead of new world event is because of power creep. You have Forts replaced by Fort of Fortune and then you would have Fort of Fortune replaced by these new Forts. Fort of Fortune as said by the developers was intended to be something that you cannot resist if you see it on your lobby as its so rare and valuable. But instead its incredibly common and 9 times out of 10 it just despawns with nobody having done it. I think reworking Fort of Fortune into a much cooler, interactive and unique event would be better than just making a new Fort and effectively leaving Fort of Fortune to the dust.
