Chest of Souls - respawn chest

  • there should be a "chest of souls.. players who pick it up will have 5 respawns at the chest (where-ever they chose to place it) aslong as its not held by another player for 60 seconds... the chest can be re-filled with souls that are collected from dying players (before revived or going to the fairy) using a bucket.

    1. only one chest per map
    2. refillable by killing players and collecting souls with bucket
    3. five respawns only
    4. players must hold for 60 seconds to claim chest
    5. players can empty chest even if they dont own it

    What's the point of refilling the chest if you need to die to do so?

  • @mr-whaletoes LOL! you have to kill other players haha

    e.g put chest some where kill people and collect the green smoke (soul) that appears when they die,
    so as you probably know you only have a short window to collect the soul.

    players will have to descide weather or not to risk waiting for a revive or going to ferry so the enemy cant take their souls and continue the onslaught haha

    Ah, that makes more sense.
    However, lore-wise, stealing someone's soul and putting it in a chest makes a person unable to go to the ferry. We know this because Flameheart did it.

  • @mr-whaletoes in that case maybe a disorientating black screen when your soul gets taken.. same time period to respawn as the ferry but harder to find the exit?

  • This is broken and disturbing in so many ways. It defies lore to a degree, takes power away from players, breaks certain barriers (like not being able to be revived on an enemy ship), and heavily promotes PvP.

  • @galactic-geek i dont see why you wouldnt be-able to revive on an enemy ship? it does promote pvp (obviously! lol) spawn campers are already a thing though so 1x chest per server gives people who are getting camped somewhat of a chance to retaliate/even the playing field... and lets be honest, if a galleon of toxic spawn campers get the chest... odds are another galleon without the chest made you rage quit yesterday anyway lol

    i take back what i said, it demotes pvp lol

  • @crowedhunter haha maybe bro? but i think that would make it abit OP, my idea is all you have to do is find their chest and empty it, if they kill you again then just return to ferry so they have no more souls to use.

  • haha or leave your boat elsewhere and beable to die on an island. dont mean to toot my own horn but its a great idea! lol if people say otherwise theyre just salty from pvp without the chest... sea of ptsd i reckon aha

  • same people have a shores of gold and jack sparrow tall tails saved to exploit the game though haha

  • There are 2 issues with this.

    1, Rare does not want to incentivize just killing players for any reason other than sinking a ship/stealing loot or defending your ship/loot.

    and 2, This feature sounds entirely out of place for this game and how it plays. It may have had use back in arena perhaps, but it sounds entirely out of place for normal play.

    There's a careful balance to consider - PvP is itself fine; but if there's enough encentive to always attack and kill every single pirate crew you come across, then that takes away from every social aspect of the game. Being in possession of this chest does exactly that - you are incentivized to kill everyone you encounter to fully take advantage of it.

    It's in recent patch notes - you can no longer revive allies or crew while they are on an enemy ship. This was a purposeful change to prevent, or at least reduce, spawn camping.

    Indeed, spawn camping has become a modern issue that rare is trying to stop people from doing, even going as far as to punish the action if its done excessively, so it would make no sense that they add a mechanic that goes against the hard work they have been putting towards ending spawn camping.

  • This is definitely an interesting idea. I don’t follow the lore on this game too much. I know somebody in here must know. What is the lore reason that we spawn on our ships? Is there one?
