Sea of the Damned portal Skip

  • The sequence where you are travelling to the sea of the damned ive seen way too many times.

I believe if its logged that you have completed the tale you should be able to ship this by interacting with the voyage book on the table. It will then fast forward you to the area.

It was interesting if a little cringy at first but now its just a sigh fest whenever i do these tall tales.

Before you say “Oh but it will speed up the process of server hopping!!” I dont care.

Just let me skip it cheers :)

  • Fairly sure the tunnel is a technical limitation; it's when the game is basically looking for a server to put you on and load you in (it might actually need to spin up a server specifically for that tall tale instance).

However, it might be feasible (not certain) to remove the rock portals and implement something similar to the Sea of Bones dive, which would at least cut down on the sail time a little.

I do care. Unless the remove any cheese with Reaper flags I am in favour of even increasing the waiting time.

  • That's kind of everything in this game though. Due to the nature of the game you could be playing with other people who haven't done it. I know some games allow individual members watch the cutscene while those who skip can play on but the nature of this game I don't think that would work well? The portal hopping to hunt emissaries shouldn't really be a thing any more since if you want to merge off to a new server you can just que for pvp now so not sure why you are using the portal so much?

I would appreciate a skip for all things, just saying I don't think its likely. If you are doing the portal hopping method their attitude probably is that's your choice and the price you have to accept you are paying.

For me I want a skip to the roleplaying BS. I have done over 30 legend of the veil voyages already. Don't need to wait on the NPCs to explain everything. Similarly to your complain, as I have done the pirates life but don't have any checkpoints... If I go to do them again for whatever reason waiting for the NPC to stop talking and open up the portal.

I kinda figured the new system would end portal server hopping the other way but I guess they will always be some lol. Even for the sake of the tall tale being done properly that segment is pretty drawn out. I wonder if it has padding for the same of long black screens for people running on standard hard drives instead of SSDs

  • It's a loading screen.

Also absolutely not. You want a bunch of supplies? Wait or pay. I think the out tunnel animation should be 5 minutes longer if you cancel the TT.

Didnt mean to offend you, jeez 😅

A person disagreeing and having a countering view is not "being offended".

It is possible to disagree and state counter views without being however upset the other may like to imagine them as being. I'm sure you are not 'offended' every time you had a view counter to whatever may have been said.

Also, if it was removed, all that you would likely see is just a longer black screen.

    Of course it doesnt.
I was not remarking that, it was the choice of words used that gave off a particular tone.

“No, Absoloutely not” comes across as rather annoyed or strong disapproval.

Thought i struck a nerve and wanted to express that was not my intent.

To be honest, couldnt care less about people disagreeing. Its all people do on these forums anyways. I dont write ideas for them tho, i just like to jot stuff down

Well in regards to the black screen or delays in general, the idea is to make a way you can skip it all and jump right in.

It may not be possible, i am not an expert. But its not my job to know. Im just a consumer same as you.

  • @shadow20642 like @RealStyli said the the intro sequence (going into the sea of the damned) is only partly lore, during that time an instance is spun up and this takes time to start and validate and error handle if it went wrong for some reason.

The outro sequence (going back to the sea of thieves) is looking for a server that has room for you and your ship and if this is not the case spinning up a new server and validating this all went well

  • @callmebackdraft Thats totally understandable. However the trip out there is just way longer than coming back in.

If it is a matter if it just loading, fine.

However if it has already loaded perhaps give a prompt to enable us to skip it via the crew table.

Ive loaded into new sessions faster than the sea of the damned trip out there.

Perhaps it does make sense lorewise but ive seen the lore several times, Does it make sense to keep having the same disneyland pirates of the caribbean ride greeting everytime? Thats essentially what it is.

I suspect its more to do with a deal they got with disney, a condition of being able to use the POTC cast.

  • @shadow20642 while going out and loading into the sea of thieves from main menu it will mainly look for room on existing servers, this is less work then guaranteed spinning up of instances which is required for the tall tales.

Also keep in mind that server hopping is an allowed but unintended use for these tall tales.

I dont suspect they want to make it even more alluring to do so because every time a server/instance has to be span up for this a cost is involved.

also, there is now a more reliable way to find matches with the season 8 additions and while there are issues with matchmaking times they are working on that.
