Pet Crew Features

  • How about giving each type of pet a minor feature?

    • The birds, if put in the crows nest, will squawk when they see a ship

    • The monkey, if shot from a cannon to an enemy ship will attempt to steal loot and swim back

    • The dogs and cats bite/scratch (couldn't think of much on these)

    Cats hate everyone in general and could just walk around hissing at your crew if they stand still on deck for too long.

  • The only updates pets need is the ability to equip multiple large (pocket pets don't count) pets at once, up to the max crew per ship. Sloop I can do 2, brig 3, gally 4.

    Or just let me equip them all and make the server cry...

    In before "give everyone a free pet". With each pet having a different skill you'd have to give everyone one of each pet, losing 5-25$ of income per player. Otherwise still pay to win.

    They could have pets that can be earned, but I see your point.

    That kind of creeps into pay to advantage territory. While I understand pets aren't expensive per se, I think these kinds of ideas would push people to use pets more because they feel they would have to.

    Server tears are a myth IMHO, I played EVE Online and we had battles with 5000 ships in fleets. It was a bit laggy :)

    So I don't think your pets should make the server cry

  • Dogs could help with digging treasure.

    This forum cries PaY tO wIn everytime this is discussed.

    Yet they have no issue with certain paid cosmetics having distinct advantages (cannon flares, sails, tuck emotes, outfits)

    Hypocrisy

    Giving pets a function would be FUN and the people who cry otherwise are sad pathetic individuals who are shortsighted and only focused on the imaginary negative

    Tiny little additions to make it somewhat worthwhile to bring your pet out AND worth saving up for

    I can't say I miss waiting several minutes to find out whether my guns are firing or not.

    SoT seems to have a very different structure, and even stacking 2 lost voyages on your boat creates appreciable lag, npcs acting strange, etc. That's just from having a bunch of inanimate crates on the deck. I really don't doubt that would shake the very fragile tower SoT rests upon.

    1. SoT is a cosmetic progression game. Last time they added a better item (DA sails) it was nothing but trouble.
    2. Pay to win.
    3. Imagine how annoying it would be to stack athenas, only for a newbie's dog to steal one.

    hehe point taken TIDI is nasty :)

    But really, the 5 or 6 limit can't be a server issue, IMHO they probably decided that 5 or 6 is the number that makes a single sea feel populated but not overcrowded.
