Skeleton Curse Cosmetics

  • Some of the commendations required for cosmetics are simply rediculous.

Issues concerning same-faction wins not counting towards already ludicrous numbers required AFTER you've already ground out the curse... HG just isnt fun anymore.

HG becomes an unending chore where you cannot even enjoy a win because it A) wasnt an opposing faction win B) wasnt a 4 killstreak

I would suggest lowering some of these achievement rank numbers required or put in some form of alternate progression. Its absolutely maddening.

  • @soulstinger2k20 takes to much to reach base curses also but people will keep gatekeeping

  • @subject-18-jord I agree that base curse is a fairly huge grind as well.

It wouldnt be so bad if there were other sources of rep, but I cant think of any without breaking HG entirely

  • @soulstinger2k20 i see 3 options. 1. lower amount of rep needed to level up from1-100 . 2. have genuine rewards every 5 levels to get people back into the mode casuals are tired of instantly getting sunk in hg but might find it more tolerable if were unlocking something every 5 levels doen't even have to be fully new stuff they could always bring back some of the arena stuff. and finaly have unlocking the hideouts at level 50 give them a taste of what they are fighting for i honestly think these changes would not only make more people happy with the mode but increase peoples time in it as have some you have to unlock only after the rituals that give ship and weapon cosmetics

  • (And more skeleton cosmetics, Servant shipwright, servant ship set)

My issue currently is the 4 killstreak commendation only counting after the curse, and sinking opposing faction ship commendation in a world where half your fights are same faction

  • What's worse is after finally reaching level 100 and then spending hours unlocking more commendations, I am unable to purchase any skeleton parts as it keeps bugging out on me and won't find the items when I try to purchase.

  • @subject-18-jord I don’t think that 125-175 wins is a lot for a curse considering the legendary sea dog weapon set was 240 wins in arena. I think it’s just a little tedious especially when you’re constantly diving but you can just leave the Hourglass up and play the game as you normally would while playing a battle every so often and earning passive rep. I’ve been fishing at sea posts and waiting to defend for the repelling milestone lately and it’s actually a refreshing way to play the mode and you don’t risk anything while leveling hunters commendations.

  • @amazingjables thats the kicker 125-175 WINS it takes much much longer if you keep getting one balled spawncapmed etc etc players that are facing loss after loss only to get a tiny sliver of rep is very disheartening and puts people off investing in the mode it should be rewarding if you win or lose winners should get more rep than losers obviously but the ammount losers get out side of events feels like putting salt in the wound of your loss

  • Exactly, it feels like the entire killstreak mechanic combined with the size of the grind conveys a sense of FOMO.

When I say 150 to 175 wins thats implying an equal or even greater amount of losses, sometimes MUCH greater. So 200/300+ matches before you get anything of your rep, and THEN more grinding on top for specific cosmetics

  • They should is the matchmaking ngl

  • Lets face it, this feature failed:

    • The reward model is horrible, who wants to grind what in hours would be 5-10 galleons for a curse
    • They should have tightened up the cheat model before they even released it
    • Having a PvP queue that leads to open world PvP and has almost no matchmaking is just plain a bad idea
    • The total lack of a forced ending in the form of a timer or area reduction means many battles take a stupid amount of time
    • No realistic PuG option

    Better luck next time Rare.

  • @amazingjables "... considering the legendary sea dog weapon set was 240 wins in arena..."

The Arena that was removed from the game. It's best not to copy from or use as a baseline, failed features.

  • agree, the grind is ludicrous. I know SoT has always been a grindy game but having to grind this much is just no fun at all.

I just wish there was other methods of leveling the faction instead of getting either 1/4 of a level or 1/2 of a level per win/loss and thats at level 5!

don't want to know how hard a level is when it gets high up. I'm dreading the thought.

  • Foambreaker you're necroing again.

But yeah, HG is fun, and exciting, at first. But the sheer grind coupled with waning interest is tough.

Gotta keeping trickling in new stuff to HG to keep enough people queing up or the entire thing collapses.

Also since my comments on this thread I got my green bones, and havnt touched HG since

  • Ive thought about going for Gold Bones, just to achieve absolute madman status, but if Rare DOES add new stuff to HG in season 10 I imagine none of your pvp achievements now will count towards anything new

  • @needsmokes

There are some cosmetics you can grind out really quick.

For reference, I reached level 100 last night and then in one night I:

Did Heart of Fire tall tale - ashen bones
Climbed aboard a skeleton ship - swag shorts
Blew up a pirate with a keg - explosive skull
Killed 100 phantoms (3 sea forts) - cage body

  • @subject-18-jord i just got to the skelly curse at 2 in the morning today. im not looking forward to getting all those harder commendations solely for the fact that not all ships would count, as now we can matchmake against servants ships
