Remove season renown cap at 100

  • As it is so easy to achieve level 100 renown within the first few days of a new season why not remove the cap of 100 and allow players to continue gaining season renown? By doing this you give players a reason to stay playing so that they can have "bragging rights" as to what level they achieved in a season.

I'm not suggesting that after level 100 there are additional cosmetics rewarded as I understand that requires a lot of additional work, but there could be rewards of gold or doubloons every 10 levels above 100, especially as doubloons are now used to buy voyages. Or award a new Season chest for getting to level 500 or 1000 which gives a healthy amount of doubloons.

The game continues to award season renown (Green, blue, or purple) after level 100 anyway so why not remove the cap and give players another goal to achieve?

There appear to be no level caps on PVP and milestones and with PVP there is a stupidly high cosmetics reward at level 1000 so why is there a season level cap.

  • No I think I quite like my season capping out. It means I"m free to not keep playing.

  • I agree with this idea. Giving a reward that those who get past level 100 can enjoy, and those who stop at 100 don't fear of missing out.

  • I'd be fine with continuing to award gold or doubloons every few levels, but I don't know how this would might affect the doubloon market and how they are trying to position Reaper Chests. Maybe just token gold every so often?

  • I feel there needs to be some reward for players to achieve, once you've reached legend (which in my opinion can be achieved far too easily) what incentive is there to play the game? I know there are milestones and PVP rank, but some of us don't like PVP or are not very good at it, but if we want to show any advancement in the game our only option is to complete PVP battles or other milestones because they are the only active counters that show any progression.

  • This is actually a great idea... I wouldn't recommend ancient coins either but yea, why cap us? Gold and doubloons are practically worthless, who cares if we get more gold and doubloon bags after level 100?

    Buy this pirate a grog!

  • Or maybe they should just decrease the renown earned?
Every so season I see this same post. Something beyond 100 since it so easy to reach it.

Maybe they should make it so you have to 100% complete a Trial to earn 1 lvl of renown? So 100+ Trials and you have to complete them all or some just to reach the end.

  • @burnbacon You're probably right - reduce the amount of renown earned, but even a reduced amount it's still possible to get to 100 before the end of a season - look at how renown was earned in pre-season 8 - was a lot slower but 100 was still achievable for most players by the end of it, I'm just saying it needs to be open-ended so that it's possible to get more renown for those players that want it.

  • Reducing the amount of renown earned because a very small portion of the community has the time to cap out in a few days makes no sense. Renown gain is set at a reasonable rate. Leader boards are there for bragging rights.

I feel like I’m one of the few people who plays just because I enjoy it and not because some number increases as I play.

How do you know you've won without the numbers though?

In theory it does sound like a great idea. But in practice it means that a player who binged SoT for just one or two Seasons can buy literally every cosmetic there is available for gold and doubloons. This puts more pressure on the Devs to churn out new/reskinned cosmetics at an unsustainable rate, crunching their entire art design and coding departments.

Players would simply run out of stuff to buy too quickly thus forcing insane work hours for the design team and/or a huge increase in gold and doubloons costs for everything just to keep up with a section of players who binge play Seasons and buy everything up like a flock of cosmetic content locusts.

There is actually a pretty logical reason to cap passive gold and doubloon sources.

  • Nah. A thousand gold coins or 10 doubloons every two or five levels past 100 won't bankrupt the entire economy, especially with former PP cosmetics being reintroduced at expensive prices.

And if you're really scared of that happening, cap the PP at lvl 1000. At a thousand gold every 2 levels, it would only amount to half a million gold for someone reaching lvl 1000 : hardly enough to buy "every cosmetic available", even after multiple seasons (even 1M Gold/season would be very far from what would be needed - the overall cost for all in-game cosmetics is over 150M gold coins).

(or make the PP lvl 100-1000 extension exclusive to the paid PP, as an added incentive)

  • And I was also thinking about this today as I was sitting in the tunnels, this would encourage me to defend hourglass as well. Finished with the season, just collecting loot to sell or defend, get into a scrap when one happens. You have something to earn one way or another.

But yea, I've yet to by the entire dark adventurer set (ship, clothes, tools, etc...). I don't think 1000 gold every few levels is going to really speed up that process compared to stacking ashen vaults.

  • For me, I'm not driven to get all the cosmetics that the game offers. I have all the ones I want or need (I feel another topic coming on here, improve the management of cosmetics and emotes :-) )

Small amounts of gold are not going to make a huge difference - look at the new Chest of Fortune - 20,000 gold. I don't see everyone rushing to do Forts of Fortune to get them!

If you removed the cap and awarded 20,000 gold for each level above 100 you're not going to get huge amounts of money to buy "all the cosmetics in the game", effectively giving you the same reward as a Chest of Fortune.
