Using curse cannonballs during the hourglass battle

  • I was once told that using cursed cannonballs during an hourglass battle is cheesey. I was told that the pros say this. Basically, that cursed cannonballs should not be allowed in the hourglass battle. First off, to my knowledge there isnt really a pro circuit in this game and in my opinion, if it's in the game, then it can be used. What is everyone else's opinion on this?

  • @poppaklocks tools not rules.

  • @poppaklocks Cursed cannonballs - good luck with resource extraction. And that they should not be used during PvP - nonsense, if they say so "professionals" - you should not follow this nonsense. These are just words, and in fact they themselves can use them and say such things. Use the cannonballs as you wish.

  • I have never heard of anyone, more or less "pros" say that curse balls are cheesy, so if anyone has, im going to say that it is some one who is salty that they didnt have any and lost to some one who did have some.

It sounds to be the same mindset as some one who plays team fortress 2 and complains that some one is using a specific class against them just because they lost to it, so i would ignore anyone who says its cheesy and just do what you like with curses.

  • Cursed Cannonballs are only okay when I use them! /j

Cursedballs in this game are a hard-to-find resource that you can't let go to waste, and it can be a free win for a battle or two. People can call it cheap, and might lose respect for another renowned pirate out there, but it is as much of a tool as anything else in this game, it just so happens to have insane RNG to not only be in a pirate's inventory, but to be matchmade into a crew that even got lucky enough to have the right ones to use against you in battle.

Those "pros" are just arena refugees not willing to accept that these are in fact, in the game and people can, in fact, use them to their heart's content. If you sink to it, oh well.

  • Curses or not it can make those battles decently fun instead of a cannonball slog so who ever said that was either drunk or high haha but if he was talking wraith balls then he may have a solid argument but at end of the day it's tools not rules

  • @poppaklocks 😂word up! Use them as you wish! No cheese involved

    Good luck out there

  • @vito1700 Word up Vito!!! You know it. The seas are salty these days. Lol

  • There is a portion of the population that rides on "if I do it, it's justified" "If I don't like it, it's wrong" while they try to control and nerf others. Sometimes they are successful in getting it changed. Multiple examples of that.

If it's not an exploit and not a cheat do whatever you want until they get the devs to change it for them.

Tools not rules is either backed by consistency and principles or it's a meaningless phrase. Do what you wanna do while it's available in the game.

  • To be honest players don't like it but nothing will stop you from using it. If your on PC a lot of players recognize each other and will shame you on certain discord servers for using them. So it's your choice it's a sandbox, but if you start getting recognized as a curse spammer by certain groups then people may choose not to play with you if you care.

  • @wolfmanbush

It is funny. It seems many will defend some particular tactic, then rail against another one as being cheesy or wrong.

I can see certain arguments, but only when they actually touch on gameplay issues. (For example, those who run in circles for a very long time....decreases fun for everyone. That's not because running is a bad tactic, but only because the game would run smoother if HG battles did have an upper cap on them, but one set decently high)

  • They're mad you used them because they wanted to take them out of your supplies if they sink you...and use them themselves.

  • Its the same concept as people who rage about "sword-lords" who gut them when they try to board.

They took you down didnt they? They succesfully defended their ship didnt they?

Its just sour grapes. Some people will complain about anything that contributes to their having lost a match

  • @pithyrumble
Or mad they didnt have any to shoot you with first.

Ive heard players complain about getting hit with curseballs, and watched the same crew use the ladder-launch glitch and silent board in the same session. Its all just hypocritical sour grapes

  • Tools not rules. Do what you need to win.

It is hilarious really. The pros get hit with 1 blunderbomb and cry out "blunderbomb spam".
You blunderbomb them off the ladder they start RODL-ing.
You hit them with 1 cursed ball and they start crying while shooting 40+ chainshots on your way.

Just ignore it. "Pro" scene in this game can be a clown fiesta.

  • I've seen some high tier streamers etc take this stance and to each their own but that's literally what they're there for.

Just be aware that other ship may have curses and you using them may make them more likely to use them.

I generally would want to save them for champion streak fight, of if you get something rare like fighting a champion.

I am prone to forgetting about them though so sometimes I will just use to end fight early if feels like competent crew.
