Account progress gone and has different gamertag despite being the same microsoft account i purchased the game on.

  • I downloaded the game today for the first time in a while, when I logged on it prompted me to create a new pirate. I noticed my gamer tag wasn't the randomly generated one I had originally. I went to the purchase history of my current Microsoft account to make sure it was the correct account. It said the game had been purchased on this account and everything lined up. Despite this, apparently I only have like 20 minutes on the game or something... Somehow the Xbox live account got unlinked or something. Unfortunately it seems there is no way to retrieve it as I only have the gamer tag, (VesperAgenda561). Incredibly stupid to have no recovery system for emails whatsoever when you rely solely on a bunch of unnecessary and complicated linking of accounts and a single gamer tag... Any thoughts?

  • Well VesperAgenda561 looks like a different account, with achievements unlocked for Sea of Thieves from 2021, whereas 'elkshead' only has the banana cronch achievement from today. Are you sure you are using the correct login?

  • Did you log into a friends account?

  • I’d raise it with support, the forum doesn’t sound like the place for this query.

  • @d3adst1ck this is the problem, the so-called “elkshead” account which has no achievements is the same Microsoft account in which I bought the game. It’s obviously some sort of linking issue. I’m not quite sure how to resolve it.

  • @elkshead try logging out of the Xbox App/Companion App and possibly the Windows store and signing in with the correct account.

This account and the original account are separate accounts so no progress etc will carry over between the two.

  • Are you sharing gamepass among accounts?

  • @metal-ravage I dont have gamepass, i bought sea of thieves outright.

  • @triheadedmonkey The problem is I do not know the email to the VesperAgenda561 account and microsoft support wont provide it with me for security reasons.

  • @elkshead Unfortunately, you would need to recover that account. For the same reasons, Rare can't/won't just transfer account progress etc.

  • @triheadedmonkey So im screwed? I mean, i really dont understand how they can just unlink my account... I reset my computer once and re-download the game and its a completely different account...

  • @elkshead Unless you have access to that account or can prove that it is yours then they can't as there is personal information attached to accounts.

EDIT: You can still try sending a Support Ticket to Sea of Thieves Customer Support but unless you can prove it is your account, I'm not sure how you would get on.
