What's the red line in ship names?

  • I recently saw Lunar Festival hull and immediately thought that I know the name that would go perfectly with such bright red ship.

"Red Terror" or "Red Menace", sounds very piratish, right? And then it hit me that it kind of sounds like something else too... So would this be allowed or is it already political? If it is allowed, would something like "Ghost of Communism" be allowed too?

  • Sot is a play it safe environment, it's family friendly and being/trying to be edgy typically doesn't end well for people

to protect yourself and your boat naming privilege I would avoid things that you are worried about, even if it slides for a while or a long while you're still gonna have to carry around that concern.

  • @wolfmanbush I don't think "Red Menace" or "Red Terror" are edgy, and I can't be responsible for poor naming sense of some gov propagandist who died 100 years ago, but I did notice that there is no chill with bans when it comes to names, hence the question.

  • There is a rule of thumb when deciding if something is ok or not, and it goes, "if you have to ask, the answer is probably no". It might be fine, but if unsure, if you think it might be skimming the line, probably best not to.

If you're worried about the historical and political attachments related to the Red Scare, I have an alternative suggestion:

    "Red Death"

It's the name of an evil version of Batman that sounds more like the name of a plague than anything else. (at least in my opinion) This way, you can have a name for your ship that emphasizes the red coloring, without having to feel concerned about anything politically related.

As it's based on discretion we have no idea what they will or won't do but what we do know is you know what they can reference as you are considering them. You might have no issues with either but you would be going into both fully aware of what they can be interpreted as.

Why risk it with the knowledge you have? Like I alluded to in the first post, do you really wanna have that in your mind as you play?

It's not like you can't use creativity to come up with something similar that won't cause concern

Maintaining an environment that serves and protects participants is service not political leaning.

Some people socially signaling doesn't change that ToS is there to ensure that there is a system in place to keep the environment as safe and somewhat clean as realistically possible.

What happens is that some see attack and insult as "free speech" which isn't what that is, it's violating ToS, that's all it is in this environment.

Since it's a family friendly environment there isn't as much wiggle room on some things, it's far more about that than politics.

Especially because they still practice Red Scare in some circles...

  • Alternatively, you could use other shades of red (Garnet, Crimson, Ruby, Scarlet...). "Crimson Terror" has a nice ring to it :)

  • @grog-minto
    "Slightly-off-shade red terror" XDDDD

tried that, waste of time and ended up being threatened with an xbox account ban for appealing my ridiculous Steam forum ban.

  • @remakoro Not-so-red Terror ?
