    Ahoy mateys,

    Today I would like to talk with ye about a Pirate Currency, which we currently have on the seas.

    So, as many of us know, we have III main Currencies on Sea of Thieves: Gold, Doubloons and Ancient Coins.
    I - Gold - the common/primal currency, which is used in Sea of Thieves. Ye get it from selling loot, getting Seasonal Renowns, completing Adventures and Tall Tales. Ye can use it to buy voyages, cosmetics for yer pirate and yer ship, titles, and yer own ship.
    II - Doubloons - the rare/secondary currency, which is used on the seas. Ye get it from selling Bilge Rat Treasure, completing Bilge Rat Commedations and getting Seasonal Renowns. Ye can use it to buy better voyages, better cosmetics for yer pirate and ship, better titles, Reputation Letters, and exchange it for gold.
    III - Ancient Coins - exotic currency, which is used on the seas. Ye can get it only from III sources:

    • Real Money
    • Seasonal Renowns
    • Ancient Skeletons
      Ye can use them to buy the best cometics for yer ship, yer pirate, costumes, pets, taunts, renaming deed and look-changing potion, and many more.

    This topic is my idea for currency changes and/or improvements.

    As you know, we can exchange doubloons for gold, but did you know that in the past we could have exchange gold for doubloons? I propose to bring back such function and improve the current one.

    Here is the list for how much ye can exchange the doubloons for gold:

    • 25 doubloons for 2,500.00 gold
    • 35 doubloons for 5,000.00 gold
    • 50 doubloons for 10,000.00 gold

    Here is my suggestion for upgrated list:

    • 25 doubloons for 5,000.00 gold
    • 35 doubloons for 10,000.00 gold
    • 50 doubloons for 20,000.00 gold

    Here is the list of my suggested prices for how much ye can exchange gold for doubloons:

    • 20,000.00 gold for 25 doubloons
    • 40,000.00 gold for 35 doubloons
    • 80,000.00 gold for 50 doubloons

    I always felt the doubloons to gold was a noob trap, people would start the game and see they needed gold for cosmetics so they would cash in doubloons for a sad amount of gold. Buying levels was much more valuable and there originally wasn't a limit to 1 level per month so most people would just buy whatever levels they were missing (usually merchants) at once to get their PL. The value of the conversion isn't great. Even at your proposed change it's not much. Doubloons were pretty much useless for years and they added a lot of things to deal with long time players having banked 100+ million gold. So the fact they hadn't really done anything with doubloons for years some of us foolishly converted our doubloons to gold. Now they are trying to make them relevant again. I think a complete overhaul and doubloon reset would be better. Cash out everyones doublons at 2.5x the doubloon to gold ratio and rebalance how much doubloon stuff costs and what awards them. Or just do away with them which honestly from a design perspective would make things much simpler rather than trying to decide what should cost doubloons vs what should cost gold and how much.

    With the limitation of 1 level per month in place and the lack of ability to buy athena and reaper levels those items have been pretty meaningless for a while. Especially after PL there's no real unlock for maxing out the trade companies. It's not like before where you needed max levels to unlock PL to gain access to the hideout and voyages. And with how quick it is to get to PL these days not sure why the 1 level per month restriction still exists either. Also weird you can't buy reaper levels yet you need reaper 75 to get the curse. Especially when we look back at the fact you could buy Sea Dog (arena) levels. That's the only reason I even hit max.

    I literally spent an hour converting my doubloons on a gold and glory weekend. Your suggestion has them sticking at the current 3 choices but when you have like 60k doubloons or whatever that's having to buy and wait for the confirmation of purchase 1,200 times.

    The doubloon to gold conversion works during gold boosts. So gold and glory weekends plus gold rush hour would stack with the gold and glory bonus. So G&G or community day is the only time you should ever be converting anyway. Gold rush hour was causing chaos on the servers since people would stack treasure on those special weekends to stack the bonuses then massive lag from so many people trying to sell all at once in a 1 hour window. So they have stopped doing the gold rush on the event weekends. Though honestly a flat boost to all treasure and just remove gold hour altogether IMO

    This is never going to happen

    I personally also do not see the need for another conversion from gold to doubloons, they are already very easy to come by especially considering the very limited amount of uses it actually has.

    I have a hoard of over 46k doubloons and the only use i have is the occasional skull of destiny voyage or selling them for gold when another community day is going on

    The difference is, sadly, you're a years old veteran that's played so much of the game, you've earned doubloons in several ways, ways that most casual players aren't earning them. For a long while, doubloons held little value outside of skipping some grinds, access to 1 decent voyage at the time, and several recolored cosmetics that you don't see out there as often. Now doubloons have been given more significance, as Season 1's items have finally returned to the shops for high doubloon prices, and newer, cooler, PL-exclusive voyages available for decent doubloon prices, players want doubloons, but are finding themselves tied out of ways to earn them because they have to earn them from most world events (Ashen Chests, Ashen Keys, Gifts for Reaper's Hideout), or via Reaper's Chests found in the world (Fort of the Damned, Shipwreck spawns). Take out the factor that casual players aren't foolish enough to stack, and you can see the desperation.

    Doubly so, not purchasing doubloon means that even casual players on alliance servers aren't making enough doubloons without extremely long sessions of stacking, which I can't imagine is fully possible within a single day unless you're going after FotDs only.

    I do think though, that there should be something encouraging one to grab doubloon items and sell them as soon as possible. You can only clear so many commendations before your doubloon pockets are empty with items you're looking to purchase at some point down the line.

    Taking into account Alliance Servers are still occurring, and those are the primary types of players that genuinely think most of the emporium cosmetics are actually "cool" and "stylish".

    You're out of your mind if you think that's happening at all.

    Considering some aspects of this game , being "out of mind" is ok. Besides , trading coins -at a proper rate- shouldn't be an issue.

    We use to sell Doubloons for gold and gold for doubloons. Why this was changed idk

    Maybe if they start adding rarer and expensive stuff with doubloons they may again.

    @captain-coel according to literally everyone else, you are wrong on this... apparently you were able to convert/buy doubloons with gold at one point.

    I also think this was never a thing. When we were only getting doubloons for update specific commendations, people had to do these commendations to get doubloons to buy time-limited items. AFAIK this couldn't be circumvented by exchanging gold for doubloons.
