Xbox One Support Drop

  • This year internal studios will no longer be working on games for the Xbox One, will Sea of Thieves eventually transition to have updates stop being developed around the Xbox One?

  • I wonder how much support for Xbox One limits development from a performance standpoint.

Or are the oldest PCs supported even slower?

  • The console is a defined and known spec, having to cater to 'PC' as a whole is a bigger 'issue'. Ranging from minimum requirements (yet still a wide-open menagerie of different combos with different parts) to Uber computers.

Low-end PCs are likely more of a limit than Consoles.

EDIT: I also belive the announcement was something more like they would no longer be developing NEW games for the older Console.

  • It means to say that studios developing new games will no longer have the obligation or intent to have them run on the Xbox One. Instead they will shift their focus entirely on the current gen consoles.

Similar to how studios eventually stopped making games for the PS1 and transitioned entirely to the PS2. Then the same happened with the PS3, PS4, current gen. The PC equivalent is newer games no longer supporting older operating systems.

It's not unheard of for studios working on a currently ongoing game (game as a service) to end support for older hardware. But I don't think Rare will do this. This is just my opinion of course, but I think Rare's 10 year plan for SoT support has always included supporting the Xbox One for the entirety of the game's lifespan.
