Ship Damage Persisting Across Sessions

  • Why is this a thing? I agree that ship damage should persist during a single session if you are sunk.

But why is my ship damaged and I have to pay to have it fixed everytime I boot up the game. Feels like I'm being taxed to play the game.

Understandably this isn't a big issue and the cost is only $5000 or less but it's annoying that I have to pay it everytime (as well as the additional menu clicks) or sail around with a beat up, busted up ship

Also why can't I just hit a PLAY button and the game boots in with my preferred game settings (Sloop, closed crew, etc).

If I want to play a brig or something different then I'd navigate the menu as normal

  • @paparug420 the damage is only cosmetic, which means gameplay wise it offers nothing if you fix it

  • Stop using Captain ships.

  • @burnbacon couldn't have worse feedback on this topic than that suggestion lol

Lose sovereigns. Lose trinket decorations. Lose milestones. Lose ship cosmetics.

It is only cosmetic but it is also kind of pointless having damage persist across sessions. Unless there is people who enjoy having a beaten up ship all the time every time

  • @paparug420 well i do like the damaged state persisting and just from the people i play with i know most like it too

  • @callmebackdraft A lot of my crew find it cool to see the cosmetic damage, but the fact that it can leave level 3 holes in your ship between sessions unless you pay gold is a little aggravating. I think the time between sessions would be fine for an automatic repair of your ship, at least the internal holes, but the paint and cosmetic damage could stay the same. I do like the mid session ship repairs costing, because that's my price to continue adventuring immediately after a huge battle. Also Scuttling a captained ship immediately opens every hole in it to level 3, and means the shipwright repair cost goes way up just for using the get away from toxic players option, I have never understood why this taxes me, to get away from them.

  • hi, just repare ship when you start new server, its better than think to repare it before launch sloop/brig/gallion. Simply

It doesnt leave any sized holes, a hole repaired with a plank is a repaired hole, it is just as good as a brand new ship.

There is this really nasty myth going around that a ship needs to be repaired by a shipwright In order to not gain instant tier 3 holes from patched tier 3 holes. This is a myth.

Be it on the outside or inside the shipwright repair is only cosmetic and gains no gameplay advantage compared to just slapping a plank against said holes

  • I only ever fix the damage if i remember to, probably once a month at most, its cosmetic damage thats fixed with gold that does little more than get you more cosmetics and some supplies that cost pennies. So if you really cant stand it, when buying supplies if you get them from the shipwright, its just a quick press as you go.

  • @oonoseyoo

It doesn’t. Once a plank is over the hole it recents back to a T1 hole. Stop believing everything you hear, this rumour has been debunked.

  • @peteloaf777 What a rude way to put this, thanks for the info.

  • @callmebackdraft Thank you I didn't know that, I'm still learning more every day after coming back to the game 6 months ago. I guess the rumor got to me and I always thought it seemed like I had that, but it's probably just causation, being in battle and repairing a hole, only to get hit 3 times in the same spot and assuming it just opened to that same size again.

  • I'm 100 percent with OP here. No need to make it mandatory for damage to persist across sessions. Just make it optional! It's a win-win. Literally zero downside to making it optional. Those who want to keep their damage to tell their story can do so, those who don't want to have to pay to start their session with a nice-looking ship LIKE WE DID FOR 5 YEARS can do that, too! There's no reason why we shouldn't have that option for free.

Anyone saying "it's the cost to the advantage of using the Sovereigns" is wrong. The cost to using the Sovereigns is the 250,000+ gold you spent on your Captained ship. It's also not the cost of using the Sovereigns because you have the option to never pay, and so then there's no real cost.

Just make it optional! Then everyone can be happy.
