Heads Up: The Obsidian Banjo Is Coming To Game Pass Ultimate Perks

  • If you are an active Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, starting tomorrow (6th July, 2023), you'll be able to get your hands on the Obsidian Banjo Pack as a perk for a limited time.

    Source: Xbox Wire

Sea of Thieves: Obsidian Banjo Pack – July 6
For a limited time, claim items from the prized Obsidian set! This pack contains the Obsidian Banjo, Onyx Compass, and Obsidian Hull. Perk content requires Sea of Thieves to use.

As someone who got the Banjo originally from the longsleeve t-shirt purchase, I'm glad to see it finally make its return! It's long overdue. Hopefully, it will put a dent in the scalpers trying to take advantage of its rarity.

Note: if you usually play on Steam, you will need to load up the Microsoft Store version to have the pack applied to your account. However, Game Pass Ultimate also allows you to stream games from XCloud (controller required on PC) and that will work also. Just load into the game for a couple of minutes, and you should be set.

Update: Now live! You have until the 5th of August to claim the code and you must redeem the code by the 12th of August.

  • Game pass has been a wildly incredible deal for a long time

at some point great deals begin to fade after they get everyone hooked but game pass has had a legendary run so far.

On top of the awesome and stocked library some of the perks have been an awesome part of the deal as well.

  • @wolfmanbush

Absolutely. I like using it to try out games that I might buy on Steam when they're on sale (especially if they're SteamDeck compatible). I'm not a fan of the Xbox App though. It works but it's quite laggy and definitely not as fluid as Steam.

I like to use microsoft/gamepass rewards and an achievement per day to motivate me to play 15-30ish minutes of a game I wouldn't typically play to not only get a chance to appreciate design/effort in other games but to also help keep a (imo) healthy perspective about my SoT participation and the parts of SoT that I still enjoy and look forward to.

I don't have any interest in getting hooked on another game and investing that sort of time/effort but dabbling in the different worlds and genres has been great.

If you do all your MS rewards each month you can get Ultimate Game Pass monthly subscriptions.

Rewards has bought many Plunder Passes and dlc for me over the years lol.

yeah consistent dedication to microsoft rewards (not too bad once someone gets into the habit) not only can cover ultimate but also some emporium items

that's part of what makes SoT such an amazing deal for the experience, people can work the rewards and fund their SoT experience with some extra for cosmetics and all the updates for content are free.

Someday most of us are gonna miss this so I try to appreciate it daily as it is happening now.

I get that people see cosmetics as an important part of their social and in game experience and stuff like this frustrates them but to me I just wanna enjoy the day and be present during the adventure experience.

This + I do things like, if I know I am going to buy something on Amazon, I search on Bing and then click the Amazon link, those points add up fast.

You don't get these on PC.

Seems to be an xbox thing only.

Yes you do. I've pretty much paid for all things Sea of Thieves with reward points. The only thing you do need is to log in on the Microsoft Store version of Sea of Thieves to activate purchases for specific items - like Ancient Coin.

  • No way. I've been waiting for this skin for so long now.

    Sorry, seems I've caused confusion.

Talking about specifically the MS rewards that people get for doing things in games, not on the website. I think they call them quests?

I get no notifications of these quests for rewards points, on the Xbox App on PC. I have seen it beefore and I can not find it in the app. It is different than rewards for doing things on Bing.

I think those are related to GPU only, and possibly XBox Gold, so you'd need to be subscribed to get those. I don't have those, but the xbox app does give 50 points for playing a PC game each day.

    What?

    I am not seeing this.

Either this is a test thing and your in it or I got the wrong app.

I do not get rewards points for playing games.

I do not get rewards points for playing games.

In the XBox App, under your profile there should be a rewards tab. On there should be 3 items; Play Jewel in the app for mobile, Play a PC game and Use the Xbox app for mobile. This works out to 105 pts a day if you do all three, but you can get bonus points for having 7+ friends and also for subscribing to Game Pass.

I might be on the insider program for gamebar or the app, but these have been there for a long time.

Or maybe you need to login on the mobile app to turn this on? No idea.

Thank you Deadstick, I found it now.

This is not a wise place to have this, it's basically hidden.

OK so I have point redeemable, how do I spend them. Man, this really feels like an afterthought for us PC folk.

Edit: To make matters worse, Bing reward points are different than these reward points. This is quite confusing.

  • @realstyli Very VERY happy about this. I've been waiting a long time to get my hands on this, and now it's a simple code away tomorrow (squeee!)

Yes ebay folks are gonna be mad, let them lol. And to those who complain about rare cosmetics, streamers and partners included, off your pedestal, let others enjoy the pixels you've been gurning over for ages.

They should be the same points, you just redeem them on the app or through rewards.bing.com

The only difference is these app ones aren't automatic, you need to click the 'Claim Points' button after completing the quest.

It is the marketing and promotional set, I am not surprised by any of this and no one else should be either.

With me finally getting the banjo, the set will be complete.

  • @personalc0ffee congrats!

You're right, but folk will always find something to be mad at in a game they don't actually physically own the items they're complaning of in the first place LOL.

I do. Every time I open up SoT my Game Bar yells at me to collect my points. (Also, I'm just now realizing how far up the thread that comment was... :P)

Yah, thanks to Deadstick I was able to find it.

I don't get those alerts for some reason.

  • So did anyone see the perk yet? It’s about noon on the 6th over here and I’m not getting the possibility to claim the banjo

  • Cool. I think SoT items have been the only things ive grabbed from perks everything else hasnt been much of interest.

  • @theonlycashman nope, I guess it'll take a while

  • The daily reset for Gamepass is at 1PM EST / 6PM BST (UTC+1).

  • Maybe soon they will give us the Midnight Blunderbuss in the Game pass?

  • It's the 6th, I know all about the reward points, yet this obsidian deal isn't there at all.

  • @ferociousmitten Apparently the perk contents don't reset until later:

    Happy Sailing!

  • For some reason i cant get the code.. i updated the perks section but there is no banjo. Sadge

  • @itzvaine ignore this, i closed the xbox app and opened it again. it works!

  • Still not working for me.

  • i redeemed it but i don't get my banjo in game.

  • @insers said in Heads Up: The Obsidian Banjo Is Coming To Game Pass Ultimate Perks:

i redeemed it but i don't get my banjo in game.

Note: You have to load into the Windows Store or Xbox Console version of the game for it to be added to your profile. If you normally play on Steam and have Game Pass Ultimate (assuming someone didn't give you the code), you could load into the game via XCloud for a couple of minutes and that will work as well, rather than having to install the game again.

If you're already playing on the Windows Store/Xbox Console version of the game, double check you applied it to the correct account.

If you are certain everything is in order on your side, wait for 72 hours and submit a ticket with Support if you still haven't received your pack.

If you play on Steam and were gifted the code by a friend, for example, then you might have some luck contacting support and asking them to apply it, if you explain the circumstances. But no guarantee that will work.

  • @realstyli thanks for the help i got it now :)
(I'm on steam and i'm glad that i could play on cloud without installing for the second time)
