Separate the Sweats from the Casuals

  • I’m someone who plays sea of thieves very casually, I’m not very interested in PvP so I’m usually doing basic Gold Hoarders Quests or Order of Souls quests. I know there are a lot of people who play the game in this way too. But there are also a lot of people who play specifically to kill everyone they see. Earlier when me and my crew were trying to complete a quest we were repeatedly being killed by randoms who were expert PvP players, or “sweats”. They weren’t even letting us sink, they were just repeatedly killing us and reviving us just to kill us again. This happens far too frequently in the sea of thieves ever since the Arena mode was removed from the game.

Casual players are easy targets for sweats , which is why I think there should be different servers for the different player types. Some form of automatic filtration based on each individual’s play style. Either that or a casual mode where PvP is turned off, since a lot of players are only interested in quests or PvE.

  • @biacksparrow nope sorry. Casuals will never get better if they don’t face off against opponents better than them, especially in instances of PvP like Hourglass. Plus, sweaty players are a small minority, you’re essentially wanting them to have very little interaction with other players because you want easier wins in games. Nope.

Regarding the PvE server…lol never going to happen.

  • Season 8 changed this around significantly specifically because of Rare's direction and because of social shifts that contributed

Hg brings some of the pressure from the top players down

the last 2 season largely being successful in maintaining consistent organic play brings up the casual participation and leads to more casual v casual encounters

Content creators and social spaces having burn out brings more skilled pressure down on the environment.

In a random risk/reward environment there will always be things people don't enjoy about it, about a session

but right now is about the best chance a casual player has ever had of enjoying the environment as it is designed.

  • As much as that sounds like a good idea on paper the game is five years old now and the active player base isn’t exactly booming so it’s extremely difficult to justify splitting the players up more than they already are.

The only exception to this that I personally think should be made is to put most solos against other solos in adventure because playing solo and going up against a full crew is leaps and bounds more difficult than if you have a full crew.

They did add a new scuttle and change seas feature in the settings menu which allows your crew to keep your pockets and quests and you get to be on a different server away from the crew that attacked you.

  • Ahoy, going to be dropping anchor on this thread as there is a post about Rare's thoughts on PvPvE (including a link to the Sea of Thieves Podcast that discusses it) here: https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/136693/pvpve-the-team-s-thoughts/1

You can read an article by Joe here in regards to Private/Custom Servers.

When it comes to spawncamping without any intention to sink you, this may fall under harassment can be reported to support here.

    Thank you.
