Burning ship illusion in Captains of the dammed tall tale

I was doing the captains of the dammed tall tale and got to the third location in the tall tale. At one point, I looked back to where my ship was and saw that all parts of the ship I could see, with the exception of the crow's nest, were ablaze. Strangely, these flames were not giving off any smoke. When I went back to the ship, all the flames disappeared (it was the same animation that happens when water is put on flames, but without the smoke). It seems like this was either a glitch or a result of the extra potent grog from Melee Island.
