purposefully beaching ship in sea of thieves on port merrick

  • was doing some hourglass with a few friends and we came across a ship we initially thought had crashed into port Merrick, turns out that they had got their ship beached in the centre and were using the island like a fortress using the cannons on anybody who came close. We tried boarding multiple times but it wasn't working so we eventually found a keg and used that but after detonating it, they were filled with holes yet taking on no water, at that point I just decided to stick ship next to them and just keep shooting until our ship sank and when we despawned, one of my friends on their boat said that they had not repaired and still were taking on no water. was just wondering is this a known thing? and if so has anyone found any way to counter it? I don't know why rare didn't just add a time limit where both players leave with nothing when it runs out to counter this sort of playstyle because it honestly ruined hourglass for me.

  • that's an old school strat people used to do

if they are legit stuck it should despawn in 5 minutes you can wait that out

if it becomes some big exploit thing that people are doing the devs will likely patch it out at some point

  • @wolfmanbush we were there for hours without a despawn but their ship definitely seemed to be above water level so I have no clue

could have been accidental, I've seen it multiple times over the years where people get stuck in random locations and don't despawn and don't take on water.

I remember one time, a couple years ago, I fought a brig that had themselves all sorts of unsinkable at kraken's fall during a vault.

  • @wolfmanbush the one thing I can guaranteee it wasn't is accidental considering we did see them leave the spot once and after we all got excited to actually fight, they went straight back in and even seemed to be pushing their ship in as far as possible according to one of us checking the map

the thing about some in the SoT community is that if there is something to cheese or exploit they are gonna find it and do it lol, so it's entirely possible some have something they are consistently doing

you can go through a support ticket to let support know if it seems like something you think is becoming an issue in HG

  • @wolfmanbush that's fair, I already did file a ticket, just came here in case anybody knew a good way to counter it considering it seemed very easy to do, not fond of going into games knowing the best option might be scuttling

  • @snakeeater2645 if you’re ever unsure about wether a ship is truly beached or not, then de mast it, the ship will automatically try to slide to find water again to float. If the ship has its sails down and its beached, it’s continuing to push forward. It’s likely it was deliberate but if the ship isn’t masted and beached, then it will despawn in about 5 minutes then it’s game over.

  • @snakeeater2645

we had peoples do that to us multiples time and we got them every time , its a ( legit ) strategi but does not worked well for many if you play your card right
