flotsam spawns

  • ever since the completely unnecessary increase in flotsam spawns kegs have been ruining crucial moments of gameplay... whether im sailing through a storm and a keg blows up my ship out of nowhere, or doing solo hourglass and im winning the broadside when all of a sudden im dead, demasted, and full of holes. or most recently when im stealing 2 chest of fortune from a sloop thats been stacking fotd, after iv already sunk them but theyre still running around (buried 1 chest of fortune already, and bringing kegs to try and sink me) so i harpoon the 2 remaining chests, hear them trying to board so i blunder them off my ladder and drop sails to get away, the other one from their sloop blows a keg nearby so i go down to repair and then my ship hits not 1 but 2 kegs killing me and instantly sinking my ship... as if you could even see it coming if i wasn't repairing given the fog... dumbest most unnecessary addition to the game... who thought this was a good idea??? it used to be that flotsams were a rare occurrence, now rare seems to want to give the illusion of active servers with the remanence of sunken ships everywhere

  • bird kegs have gone back and forth between rare and common for years

as a solo they have lead to quite a few unfortunate situations/sinks for me but I like them because they can change fights randomly, breaking up any metas with completely random environmental advantages/disadvantages is a positive imo

  • They should add megakegs to the mix instead

  • What I'd like to know is, at times why it seems like barrels are sinking in every instance as I approach them for long periods of time.? Then another session they are popping up in front of my ship every session, but never sinking as I approach.

  • dumbest most unnecessary addition to the game

Seems it doing a incredible job of making pirates “look before they leap”

Seriously. Who thinks it’s a good idea to sail into a circle of seagulls or random barrels.

Even if you don’t see it. I’m sorry but how are you dying? I’ve hit some on my sloop and it just damages the front but not enough for a panic attack.

Makes the sea dangerous which what we need more of. Also, chasers tend to him them more than a runner XD

  • @unleet1 I remember hearing its a sign that specific server is struggling perhaps towards the end of its cycle before it needs reset

  • @unleet1 apparently Rare have genuinely no idea why that happens.

  • It was added at the time to add to the danger of being out at sea. Tbf they don’t do that much damage if you run over one by mistake.

  • I like them, sometimes they help when you are running low on supplies, other times a keg can change the tide of a battle. The sinking barrels are very annoying tho.
