Community weekend

  • Just a small observation. It community weekend December 2023. Me and my wife log in to play, just here to have fun and find some treasure. Cruze by a sloop with is sails up and no one on board, they were in the water at a sunken ship. Get on mic say have a good sail and keep going on about our adventure. We sink two skelly sloops. See a reaper flag on a sloop sailing up. We take off and get chased, no big deal part of the game. They finally give up and peel off. We sail for a bit longer, go to Port Merrick, and start unloading. Boom they are back and sink us while we are unloading. Switch servers, they can be sweat over there, new server minding our own business get sunk again while at cressent cove sails up. We didn't know it was community weekend. So my question is, if community weekend is all about bringing the community together, why would rare make a single pop up plunder per server creating a mass influx of murder hobos only after treasure. In my opinion, A true community day would be more along the lines encouraging people to make alliance, maybe increased loot exchange rates for those in alliances. That's just my idea, leave the single treasure for a diffrent event so your game is not sending out the wrong message.

  • Sorry you got sunk.

It's weird to think about but if you want positive experiences, you need to be the one to make contact with the other crew and not allow them to make contact and control the tone.

That being said, community does not mean cooperative... it just means coming together to enjoy the game. If you're strictly adverse to the plundering aspect of the game it may not be made for you.

  • People cheese a lot on gold and glory/community weekends. That's what the gold bonuses incentivize.

Outside of that it's just random, some people have a nice weekend and some don't. They could never do anything to make all the servers enjoyable for all people.

More than anything it's mindset and approach and then it's just all random luck (good/bad) after that.

  • @eagerpilot65104 you have a point. I'm not trying to force anyone to be friendly. I'm fine with the premise of the game. Just think community day should be more focused on working together. Even like a world boss that no single ship could take down would be a cool idea

  • If community weekend is all about bringing the community together,

Where does it say that is all it is? Community Weekend is mainly just "Thanking the Community" for sticking around, playing the game and being a player in this pirate world, So here is a weekend where everything is boosted. With some rewards.

why would rare make a single pop up plunder per server creating a mass influx of murder hobos only after treasure

I assume you mean the Song Voyage, because they want players to "interact" with each other. What better way than a common goal and fight among yourselves for it.

A true community day would be more along the lines encouraging people to make alliance

Oh but people do...and if you dont join them you are sunk. Besides, Not all rewards are good to be split up...

maybe increased loot exchange rates for those in alliances

    alliance server rejoice!

leave the single treasure for a diffrent event so your game is not sending out the wrong message.

The wrong message that 9/10 all New players seem to misunderstand is, Open World, pvpve. Regardless what is going on, it will always be that and continue to be that.

I also suggested this exact idea here on the forum in the past. So of course I still support it and totally agree with you.

Well I mostly agree with you.

I think Sea of Thieves Community Day is supposed to be about celebrating the entire game which includes piracy but it also would be a great day to provide a little extra incentive to be friendly with other crews while leaving the decision totally up to the players at all times. No forcing.

Community Day is the best day to go hunting. So many people stack and loot. It's a blast to steal their loot. Sorry Community Day shouldn't be about cheesing. It should be about getting your crew together and having fun.

  • Even if someone is hostile it brought the community together. There is always more loot on the seas and having an extra up to 2.5x multiplier is more then incentive enough for me to try and get that loot in my very own grubby little hands.

I mean skull of siren songs selling for over 100k each last night (eu time) was very nice
Not to mention stacking 3 fotd’s for about a million gold in WAY less then an hour

Why would i ally with someone when me and my crew are way more efficient at obtaining the loot, i mean we have seen players doing over an hour and a half trying to complete a FoF all the while we where making gold hands over fist.

I’d rather take that fort of their hands, take all their supplies and loot and sell it on my own. Faster, more gold, and no freeloaders that just enjoy the stacks of gold we put in their pocket

  • See it this way : If you , as a company, call out Community Day and start a Twitch Event where you invite two of the biggest Trolls the Sea has ever witnessed , glorify them and almost kiss their feet , then you know that Community Day is no longer taken serious ... Which is very sad , because a long time ago there was a very Great Community in the game and in this very forum , but if there is more support for Trolls , then even the most Die Hard Community person might give up... Oh yes , the remark will be , you playing a pirate game where you get stabs in the back , so you can expect that from the management as well

  • Community weekend is not about bringing the community together in specific, its basically a thank you to the community by giving special boosts and rewards. Its still up to players if they want to be friend or foe.

The best part is you don’t get to tell someone what their community day is supposed to be about!

    That’s my favorite part.

Isnt that exactly what you are asking for?

you talking about the boom tv thing?

as far as I know boom tv picked the captains and the captains picked their crews.

That's not on Rare even if they did show support for the overall activity.

There was a variety of different types of players involved, wasn't really just one type of player or type of content creator.

It was just a bingo event with lots of pve involved, not anything that was putting some sort of negative thing out there in design.

  • @beardhammer2340

I have a cool idea for community day, a multi crew treasure.

Rare can place a locked chest at the Sea Dog tavern that can’t be moved and requires 2 different crews to open. The chest keys can be hidden in the same way as pop up plunder.

Another idea is a significant world event that requires multiple crews and is only available during community weekends. The Glitterbeard event is cool but once completed it’s not worth doing it again. If Rare gave us unique rewards or treasures for doing Glitterbeard that’s only available during community weekends would bring life into the event.

  • @beardhammer2340 SS and Pop-Up Plunder are like air drops in Rust. Almost everyone doing them is gonna KoS.

But the benefit to the community bonding is that it funnels people of that mind into those activities, allowing for PVE-focused players to go off and do other activities which generate less interest.

I just saw on Discord that over 8.5 thousand alliances have been formed since yesterday. So I think you may have had some bad luck on who you guys shared the seas with.

As a side-note: Port Merrick is a good place to go if you want to get ambushed. Otherwise, just make the trip to Plunder or Sanctuary. Same for Daggertooth honestly.
