Change is Needed

  • It’s very clear that the SoT servers are on their last breath. I’ve never understood why Rare won’t update their engine to accommodate for server performance. An obvious answer is last gen, which leads to my next point. Drop it. Last gen is holding this game back from its true potential. It’s been 4 years since the series x console came out. Why most games still do not utilize its capabilities is baffling. Sea of Thieves has a chance to be something greater, but the devs just seem like they don’t care. Vague interaction, failed promises, bad updates. 2024 has to hit the mark, or I’m afraid the game will, no pun attended, start to sink into irrelevance.

  • Xbox one support has nothing to do with it as made clear here

  • The problem would be with the Azure servers, which aren't great for this kind of game...

  • Just to be a devil's advocate; nothing in that official response mentions whether or not old console support is having any bearing on the continuing developement of the game.

Perhaps it isnt affecting server strain (which wasnt mentioned) but I would imagine it certainly has a hand in the developement of new graphical elements or upgrading to a newer overall engine.

  • I wouldn’t say they are on their last breath quite yet.

Minimum PC specs are lower than xbox 1...

Page 2 - quote "I don't know how many times I'll have to say it but Older Generation Consoles or Lower Spec PC has no impact on the performance of our server."

  • its no surprise a game lags with cruisin ships movin players and tons of loot on the seas. i think its anyway time for sea of thieves 2 (what will never be released) , cause hands down sot is realy clunky in his pvp mechanics close combat is absolute awfull and not fun at all.the game is almost 6 years old i cant see this grindy tedious game anymore. its since release grindy but when sot came out the first years felt more adventurous with less content, when i grind hg i cant do it not longer than 90minutes ,change server dive get supplies lose change server, its just boring,a pure fight wasnt the thing what made pvp in sot fun.

  • @mopwieldinghedgehog well, with that being the case, does that justify bad the servers are in general? They don’t have an excuse other than of course time and money. Just my thoughts

  • @mrhornet06 Claiming that the "only excuse" is time and money when clearly having very limited knowledge in the field is a bit odd to me.

That's why the game runs great on some clients but not on others, it's the servers.

    /facepalm

  • @mopwieldinghedgehog well, it’s not my forte, but I’m willing to understand why. Unless they’ve stated before, I don’t see why the server issues haven’t been solved yet. Engine problems? Moved teams around? Idk
