Headache from SoT

  • I can’t play this game anymore, I stopped playing due to the lack of content and when I came back it’s just giving me a major headache because of how the FOV is so zoomed in. Anyone else experiencing this.

  • Is it really? Can’t remember you saying this before when you were wanting a FoV increase across multiple posts months ago?

  • Yeah. That was bc I wanted to enhance PvP skills but now I’m straight up getting dizzy. I’m so serious.

  • Take the steps necessary to lessen motion sickness.

    1. Increase FoV (doesn't apply here, won't go passed 90.)
    2. Sit far enough back in your chair from your screen that your monitor bezel, the housing, is in full view. Screen size absolutely matters when it comes to simulation/motion sickness.
    3. Focus on a center point of the screen and do not dart your eyes around the screen wildly.
    4. Take breaks when it gets to be too much.
    5. Take medicine if required.

I personally use Dimenhydrinate USP. It is an anti emetic and it helps control symptoms of motion sickness. I almost never have motion sickness and when I do it is because I was sitting too close or the FoV is too tight.

Once it starts though, boy is it rough. It can lay me out for hours.

  • @vupzy Suddenly having this issue after 3200+ hours played previously without it might suggest this would be an issue that needs some looking into. Such as having eye sight checked to see if there is a need for glasses or, if you already make use of glasses, if a different prescription glasses may be needed.

  • I can't think of another first person game released on pc in the last 5 years with a max fov as low as 90 (not even like other games where 90 fov is actually 106 on a 16:9 monitor).
But clearly every other developer is wrong an Rare knows more than everyone else due to their extensive fps game experience...

  • @rambobrad if you’ve ever seen SoT at over 90 FoV you’ll see it’s a broken mess. Rare have been making games for over 35 years, they know what they’re doing ;)

  • @tesiccl they obviously don't since they can't make the fov higher without it looking like a broken mess lol

  • @rambobrad it doesn’t need to be higher, it works as it is. SoT’s also not an FPS, it’s a sandbox adventure game that uses 1st and 3rd person perspective.

  • @tesiccl I never said it was an fps. I said it was a first person game. There's no logic behind the low the fov it's not a good hill to die on.

  • @rambobrad maybe not to you, but Rare decided it was best for the game, and they have intention of changing it.

  • @rambobrad I have decided, based on no solid evidence, that everyone at Rare uses an UltraWide monitor. The FOV in SoT is vertical locked, not horizontal. So you actually get a better FOV from an ultrawide monitor. Which is kinda silly, but this has led me to commit to the idea the whole office and their homes all have ultrawide monitors.

Or is there such a thing as super ultrawide 🤔

  • @locke5474677 adjusting the FoV beyond the maximum is a violation of ToS and bannable. I wouldn’t be encouraging others.

  • @tesiccl

i never did and i never will

  • @mopwieldinghedgehog I just gotta use to it again bc the fov is insanely different from every other game.

Agreed, the sudden onset of headaches is something to see a doctor about, not change a computer game.

  • due to the lack of content

Where have you been? 2023 has been know to be a lackey year but content still was released.

As for the headaches. Sometimes it the screen, brightness, darkness area. In short: it’s the player
