I'm pretty sure although it states xbox only is a preference I've never been placed into pc servers
Are you using mouse and keyboard on xbox? This would take you out of the controller only servers

@jellyfishapod2 controller only servers are a not a promise but a preference, it even says that when you select it.

@tesiccl I've only ever had arena stick me into pc servers or other regions when I've chosen otherwise. It does state preference but I'm not sure the functionality is even there, adventure you would just server merge and hourglass you will just wait indefinitely if no one on your stamp. Hg actually tells you in queue message to cancel and try other mode if too long.

I guess I don't play at unsociable hours like 3am to truly test it but I've done enough early morning lfgs to know there's def Americans on at that time.

Absolutely not!! Cross play does not mix well. It’s a pitty as I have so many friends with multiple platforms. We don’t play cross, we fire up the same platform and play together this way. And it works nice provided we are not in cross play games.

Crossplay is literally the best thing to happen to online games in the last forever. Not requiring everyone to be on the same platform means we can all play together. For SoT it means I get to play with my pc friends and copnsople friends from a pc. Im not relocating to the couch and firing up the series x.

Pcs range from potato to ultra-high end, at a certain point it doesnt really matter. 120 fps vs 170fps. doesnt matter. The Series X is better than most peoples computers. What differs is input.

I play on a suitable pc it has 5900x and 3080ti, I also play controller. My turning and aiming etc is the same as an xbox. Controller vs Kbm is bigger difference. Dont get me wrong, the performance gap between the xbox one(2013) and the xbox one x (2017) to PCs was substanial, but that was due to storage media. They used much slower HDDs for game storage and pcs have been using SSDs for a long time. Even my One X was faster with a usb 3.0 SSD compared to the in console hard drive.

You say crossplay is bad. Many of us welcome it as opportunity to play with all of our friends without the need to own every device. Maybe re-think what crossplay means.

I completely understand you love cross play for the reasons you mentioned. We welcomed it also. Another great idea with major issues that are not able to be solved.
This cross play creates so many bugs that it dissolves many players skills sets and becomes a battle of luck. We understand games are for skill and may the best skill be victorious. When you cross play the game mechanics change and leave many unable to properly play the game as intended within the game mechanics.
I have been on both ends of this! When we have an advantage , while the opponents are struggling and is clearly unfair on them and we don’t get the challenge point from the opponent they obviously can’t play to there skill level due to the cross play features having a negative effect and there is so many things to mention. Usually and mostly when pc is involved. It’s crazy, so many of our friends switch to pc for the overall advantage and you can debate it all you want but it’s well know and documented that the advantage is huge! Others just quit to play games that don’t cross. So while it does bring together friends from different platforms we see more splitting and peeling off than staying around attempting to play something that just don’t work. Again when I heard about cross platform it wowed me, when I dove deeper into it , well, the disappointment set in. With where tech is right now, there is really no excuse for it but it remains unsolved. Most of my info comes from the experiences in game, experience from friends and many discussions had with random pirates around the globe, sea is very social. I’m always encouraged to pass questions through my younger brother who is a software engineer and developer. He will test things for us and make sure we are correct. Sometimes we don’t understand why things are the way they are and he will make light of it regardless if like the answers or not, at least they are true and correct. I return to cross play does not work!! Yes I want it to be great and work!!! I really do!! It just doesn’t sorry guys….. hopefully there may be a more level playing field with the console cross. We will see in time. By the way in case you’re wondering I’ve played on pc, both high end and basic setups, the difference is incredible. Definitely much more beautiful, smooth and quicker. I just prefer to play games on a console with controller so when I get home from work I don’t feel like I’m back at work when I game, not the only one with this in mind. So I want a balanced experience that functions. Not much to ask.
Oh and if you have the answer to solving cross play please send an email to Elon and ask him to develop this. Then this crossplay discussion won’t need to exist, other then happy days.

@jellyfishapod2 See but you're wrong. Cross-platform gaming works fine. The advantages you claim exist are on input devices not actual hardware. An Xbox Series X or PS5 is better than most people's pcs.

I don't play on pc for an advantage over others. I use controller because it's comfortable. I play on pc for its better fame library, generally cheaper games, and not needing a subscription to play online.

You can go on about about pcs having an advantage but maybe the new consoles shouldn't get to play with the old ones either because of the storage drives and loading time. Maybe we should split pcs by what generation gpu, cpu, or storage they have. Do you see how ridiculous this sounds? The only advantages that exist in the pc/conaole debate is that generally kbm has an advantage over controller. This is often mitigated with aim assist, but kbm juat move different. But you can also plug a kbm into your Xbox and play that way if you want.

Cross play works fine and is better for the gamer. I can't wait till all console specific lobbies are gone from gaming.

@liberance evidence is I’m meeting friends of mine who play on PC in open servers who load into open servers and remain in those servers. I’m diving into these open servers and the game message is im playing with xbox players on controller only. Is this not evidence? Sorry thought I could just let people know what was actually happening, didn’t think about providing evidence as I’m used to conversing with an open honest crowd, forgot people like to lie about things. My bad, I’ll try to remember to provide evidence in future. Apparently this is the only place to share the game issues, they don’t want to hear it directly lol

This is ridiculous mate, if it were that easy it would be resolved many moons ago. It’s okay, pc will remain with its advantage forever looking forward. Like it’s been proven PC has a major advantage. Do you really think you can convince the majority that it’s just input. Here is an idea, input your pc into a pc server and play with other pc input. It’s going to be a very very long time before cross play actually works as intended. I wish someone had the patience to make this happen. Elon mentioned with the correct global satellite setup and positioning we could all play with the same ping on one platform. He never mentioned nore gravitated towards fixing cross play, his idea is to have one affordable platform that covers all gaming. Then it’s just different game developers to cover the market. In case you are not aware he loves gaming, has brushed off any cross play questions as he knows it won’t work, so what hope is there for it if the main man can’t fix it. It obviously 🙄 like many say broken and not able to be resolved.
No point in you fighting to keep cross play open, there is money in it so they will definitely keep it this is the reason it’s here, not for your or my benefit to play with all our friends. It’s another cash grab and until something more profitable can replace it well, he is your broken dollars and mine. We prefer a more even playing field just like the devs here pride themselves on , it’s been the backbone of this game since day one, probably has created many arguments considering we are having this debate about it not been a even playing field. @jellyfishapod2 It mixes fine. I've been playing with a PC/Xbox crew for a few years. I play on both depending on whether I feel like sitting in front of my tv or down in my office with my pc. Crewmate is always on Xbox.

@jellyfishapod2 you realize you can play mouse/keyboard on your xbox, right? If that's the argument. I sometimes do that, sometimes use the controller...

@jellyfishapod2 I've been bouncing between playing on my Xbox and PC for at least 3 years. I don't understand what issues you're talking about. The platforms mix fine, there's no bug because one crew member is on xbox and one is on pc that makes the game not work. The only thing you could possibly be saying doesn't work is fighting pvp against someone with mouse/keyboard while you're on a controller. but you could also use a mouse/keyboard with your xbox if you wanted to.

what aspect of the game actually doesn't work for you? You can't sail your boat? voyages crash? No, those work fine, I've been playing with a cross-platform crew for years, it works fine.

While I can appreciate and agree with a lot of your opinions based on your own personal experiences (and mine), I think it's important to consider that our experiences and the experience of the people in our circles are a very small sample size of the big picture. Miniscule in fact.

There's certainly an argument to be made for cross play. There's different levels of skill in both PC and console. There's plenty of console players who will wreck PC players, vice-versa, and all the same there's always going to be someone just better than you (most likely) on your own platform. I mean what I'm about to say in the most literal sense possible, just get better at playing with your preferred input method be it controller or KB&M. We're reaching a point where console gaming isn't too far behind in game quality from PC gaming, so with performance becoming more negligible as console technology advances, I personally believe it's a good idea to be ahead of the curve in cross platform gaming than not. I thoroughly enjoy several games where I can hop off playing on PC, move over to the couch and toss the game up on my big screen and continue right on with my progress and playing with my friends while kicking back. Especially cool if the consoles will allow for Keyboard and Mouse for people who prefer to use that control method instead.

Does it suck getting wrecked by someone on a different platform? Sure. But it sucks getting wrecked by anyone lol. I think if the bugs are at a minimum and the process is smooth, it'll be fantastic. Good luck out there!

@toocoldtocrack it’s not about getting wrecked mate. It’s about the game mechanics breaking with the interaction. I have zero problems fighting and I enjoy pvp a long side pve. It breaks both of those. Again doesn’t work. We run oce servers and extended, our groups are far from small. Thanks for your reply. Consoles are many many years behind. No chance of catching up any time soon. Cross play would be better off developing in the background and release it when solved and working correctly.

You are saying on your crew mixed. This is advantage for you, known and proven. I speak about against mix. It doesn’t work, you denying makes you look very new to the game. Obviously you don’t play the same game. But thanks for trying for the pc players. Xbox don’t take notice of this kind of ignorance.

@redbaron1673 you realize I’m saying Xbox on controller only. You NOT supposed to be able to plug a kbm into that sever but can and that messes with the server and game mechanics.
If I wanted to feel like I’m back at work on kbm I would join open servers. Yes I know more about the game than surely you do.
Anyway don’t matter.
Simply if there were a better alternative to bring the problems of the game to the developers attention instead of it having to be a debate then the game wouldn’t be in such a bad state. People like yourself who don’t allow the issues to be aired to what they are, steer the game in downward/backward direction.

They started out with a basic game that has been led astray. The problems never fixed and the debates continue even now. Simply because most want to keep an advantage.
This is why nobody who has knowledge of what’s actually going on in the game wants to get on these toxic forums with the lower common denominator.
Well game is dead.
We are still waiting for basic fixes, not seeing anyone helping with this.

@redbaron1673 your crew is mix. Not noticing many problems, your crew is creating them. Geee bro do you even pay attention to the game. Has always been this way, we wouldn’t play if we didn’t have a pc player on board back in the early days for this reason. We broke away to console servers to play an even playing field. This has been ruined by the same type of low level gamers trying to seek an advantage rather then learning the game and playing with skills.

@jellyfishapod2 Why would you say you're not supposed to use k/m on an xbox? If you do, btw, you can't play on controller only servers. And if I start a game on controller only, it will not let me use my k/m, they're disabled.

You still haven't said what breaks in the game due to mixed players. I've played hours and hours of controller on non-controller servers just fine.

How are consoles running "many years behind"? The xbox series x|s are more than capable machines. Unless you are referring to an xbox one, which is over 10 years old. And people need to move on from them.
