Future of the game.

  • As far as i see the game won't be playable forever.
Just like other server games there will come a day when the servers no longer can stay open and the bigest risk for that would be that fewer qnd fewer players play the game...
I just wanted to get sugestion for the far future in there.. as i do not wanna end up one day starting the game just to see a message telling me thatt he servers has ben suspended.

So one way that the game couls survive even if the servers has to shut down would be that privately hosted friend link acess servers could be a thing. I like the idea of safe seas being private servers but well... i have chatted with some of my friends that has quit the game and it do seem like the biggest reason to it is that the game has no real point...
Leveling up and unlocking cosmetics is in reality pointless as they do not increase the item stats or progress the world...
the solution for that would be to make the privately hosted servers have leveled enemies and level designes and items with different stats thatcan be upgraded as one progress.. although yes that would require tons of change to the current game.. would probably be easier to make it into its own game mode.. besides high and safe seas.. with enough work that could make the game stay interesting as it would set goals for the players and a reason to keep progressing.

I myself don't have many friends that i play games with... and only 2 of them do play this game.. well 1 is sort of dropping out and the other one can't play when i am available due to big differences in time zones and work which basically means i can never play in high seas as the only thing that matters in high seas is how many friends you have in your crew as no items has stats... and even a lot of the things in safe seas are not possible to do as a solo player... some of the world events.. and some of the compassions are practically impossible to do completely. I also find that even the normal stuff in the game gets really tedious over time.. like selling the loot and colecting enough resirces from islands once one dies... also just doing the quests in general gets really tedious due to how many one have to do to earn enough gold to buy anything in safe seas... which is fine but since it is only cosmetics it is much less appealing then if it actually had better stats or anything like that..

So yea.. ik the game won't survive forever if it is only online servers.. and after checking around i noticed that ppl are either not playing anymore.. or don't wanna play because the game feels pointless..
I myself love ocean games so i still play now that safe seas are available as before i would just get attacked by other players just because i play solo... i love open world survival games (Subnautica, Minecraft, Satesfactory, Raft,...) all of which has upgradable items and world leveling and as far as i can see none of them will be inaccessible because of low player ratings.. but server games like SoT will which is very much worrying to me considering how hard it seems to be for me to find friends who play the game...
i did check and to me 9k monthly players do seem a bit low for a server game...
Also yes i get it.. this game is mainly focused towards console players.. to me that just looks like a bad choice as all consoles will eventually be outdated.. and there is always a lot of debate over whatever or not patching a game to a new platform will be a option due to hardware changes. pc is always guaranteed to stay around so yea i do not recomend mainky focusing on consoles...

There really has never been anything to suggest that SoT has an -amount of people issue-, everything that has happened suggests they have no issues getting new players to log in. Even this late into the game all signs still point to a lot of sustainable activity that lead to PS5 even being possible.

It regularly struggles with retention and healthy ecosystems for risk/reward on servers. That's not a people shortage, that's a substantive participation issue, which occurs because of a variety of different decisions, challenges, etc

When the game is done it's very likely done, just like many games before it. A gonner that people gotta prepare for.

When quality of life and significance are high it maximizes realistic player retention. QoL has gone up and significance has gone down. This creates a situation where people enjoy the game but it has become very easy to walk away from for a month or two+ at a time because nothing really matters universally. Everything is cheesed to death and there is low confidence that Rare will do much about it. Community narratives have become extreme in support of mass cheesing, which isn't good for any of us in the long run.

If they improve major bug issues, and get serious about cheesing, while continuing to improve QoL they will likely be fine for years to come.

They obviously care about the issues I brought up because of decisions like Safer Seas design. Actions speak louder than words and there are a lot of inconsistent actions but Safer Seas clearly shows that there is still at least some focus on balance while offering QoL.

Even as it is the game will probably still do well as a business, quality of the experience is gonna vary a lot depending on people's preference though.

If your 9k is from the steam charts, be aware that Steam is the lowest percentage of the playerbase as PC and Xbox account for the vast majority of players, at least 75+% I believe.

    No game is.

Your pretty much describing the game as a whole new game. (But with Ps5 added to the mix, the 10 year plan may have increased to 20) most of us players may be dead by then.

Everything in Safer Seas can be soloed. No one is going to come stop you. They can also be soloedon High Seas, you just have to be quicker.

There will be plenty of announcements that the servers are being closed lol...

You might check again / use different sources, there are currently almost 160k players who raised the Gold Hoarder emissary since March 1st.
