Game Stability is still Terrible

  • I took a break after this GDK or whatever update landed due to the utter instability of the game.

Decided to fire it back up after what, 2 months? 3?

    Servers still hiccup constantly.
Diving still renders parts of the ship un-interactable.
    Hitreg still exists.
Blackscreen of death still occurs when merming/ferrying.

If anything EAC has added even more server stutter, and the game feels less responsive now then it did 2 years ago when they had to decrease the number of ships per server.
Server stutter causes you to miss shots, miss catching ladders, overturn, overall just fail to perform... and now we have ANOTHER cross platform jumble to incorporate.

    What a mess.

  • What are you playing in
Heck why am I asking, report this to support

  • On Xbox Series X, the framerate instability in the present build is disgraceful. The game feels like it’s pushing the console too far, with constant micro stutter.

Wasn’t an issue before the GDK updates.

It makes the performance inconsistent and along with the shoddy bugs present in the latest build, is an awful showcase for the game and the developer’s quality assurance.

    Rare, you’re a Microsoft first-party studio.
Pick up your act, fix the game on your parent company’s supposedly premium console platform, before the inevitable comparison analysis videos swamp the internet after the PS5 launch.

  • I wouldnt say its unplayable, but its far from enjoyable.

I can only expect adding another seperate platform crossplay will add more lag and stuttering as 3 seperate unique venues attempt to run in parralel.

  • Играй в одиночку, снимай видео ошибок и сливай в службу поддержки, обязаны исправлять...

  • The frame drops / stuttering also happen on PC now. Honestly this game used to run really smooth on my 1080 ti but no longer. I have friends with 4090 cards and they still experience stuttering. It's bizarre.

  • Agreed, I can’t believe that I keep telling people the state of play is worse after each update. Console play is almost completely broken to the point of not feeling comfortable doing anything high risk. We had a crew member kicked 15 times in 3 hours. Another kicked 3 times in a 4 hour play session while I personally was kicked 4 in that session.

We aren’t video game developers and yes it is very difficult to push these games out that we love. That said, it’s been 6 years guys and your about to release onto a new platform that’s going to showcase why Rare is a top tier Microsoft Studio and why people should play in the Microsoft ecosystem. This release is about to do the exact opposite of that if SoT releases in the state it’s currently in.

Rare, we love this game. Please! We just want to enjoy what you guys have put so much time, effort and love into.

  • I foresee the PS5 players getting their first 250K, buying a sloop, and then ranting here on the forums about how their last few thousands spent on shipwright supplies were wasted because they never received the supplies.
I love the game, and it's been consistently heading in the right direction especially when coming to game play and general QoL. But man, things keep breaking. First the PvP bugs, then the shipwright bugs, and now pretty frequent frame drops and occasional crashing either attributed to the videocard or EAC. Despite all the positives, this is least stable I've ever experienced SoT.

  • PlayStation players in my experience expect a level of quality that is so wildly inconsistent in Sea Of Thieves it's going to be hilarious when it launches.

You are right from my experience:

    • Servers especially when in the roar seem to jitter every 3rd second and my ping seems to spike to 150 from 50 constantly for no reason.

    • Diving is still causing massive issues where you can't fire the harpoon or can't interact with them at all, not able to interact with the map table or worse not being able to interact with the anchor

    • Hit reg is still so messy with people shooting blunders and able to kill you even though the previous spot where you were happened seconds ago.

    • Getting soft locked into the supply screen because somehow the game can't register the simplest of actions.

These problems aren't just happening in a 4 hour session. I'm getting nearly all these issues with 15 minutes of each other and probably much less even by then. Admittedly issues that I haven't been having as much is blackscreening and encountering cheaters but the issue is obviously still there. I just want them to do something about Hourglass because they have been following the exact same path as Arena with its life cycle neglecting it for months at a time. If the gamemode gets fixed and modified so it isn't so sweaty and frustrating to lose then more people will play. Then there'll be a wider pool of players then we'll actually get people our level instead of jumping between players with 100 hours and players with 300 days in the game. They'd know these issues if they actually played there own game for an 1 hour or if they'd actually listen and respond to the community about these issues.

They just keep on adding content with no regards to the previous then wonder why no one is left. Its because we've all been burnt to death by the lack of fire extinguishers and water burning down the town. I have gotten to the point where I think hourglass matches are rigged I had a game an hourglass match where the rising water in my ship just didn't make any noise I go to resupply and sank. Then the next match I get the same guy and sink him in 5 minutes.

  • I think the main cause of the increased lag is the amount of loot people have. Having 10+ captain chests on your ship was considered a good haul 3+ years ago. Now you can do an event and gain 100k+ split into 50 different items. People that has ever sunk a ship filled with random loot (gems, chests, skulls etc) knows how laggy everything gets. The waves starts to stutter and your frames goes down to 30 at times.

EAC probably didn't help it as some other people have said but that at least has made the game better due to less hackers even if they obviously still exist.

    • Diving to a new server gets you stuck in underwater limbo half the time
    • Megaladon AI is broken, they often just swim in a straight line away from you and never bite
    • Skeletons don't repair their ships
    • EU server voice comms are intermittently broken

I really hope some or all these things can be fixed before PS5 launch because these are things that pretty much all players are going to see

I'm personally curious how the skeleton/meg issues can have even happened with Rare's automated testing... unless they are caught and deemed less important than other fixes going out?

  • Don't forget to add that things on the ship still fail to work as you can't interact with them.
Things on the ship disappear i have had my quest table vanish and cannons.
I mean health wise the game is in a poor state and I love the game and glad i finally have the time to invest to play again but the servers and issues wasn't this bad the last time i played what happened.
