Hourglass Invasion Exploit - Kraken's Fall

  • My friends and I were playing Hourglass (Servant of the Flame) in a Brigantine. When we resurfaced, we were invading a ship who had parked/beached themselves in the middle of Kraken's Fall.

Because that water is immensely shallow, we noticed their ship would NOT sink. Despite hitting them with 12 kegs (found after resurfacing around the island, at the sea fort just outside the ring, and later allied with a Brig that was passing by who used theirs), 200+ cannonballs, firebombs, all the while keeping them off repairs to the best of our abilities (all veteran players, been playing since 2018/2019) the water would not rise above the last stair.

They pulled themselves in with the harpoon. We tried to pull them out, since they were full of Tier 2 and 3 holes they definitely would be sunk in deeper water, but they camped the harpoons/ship decks enough to where neither of our crews could pull their ship out before being shot/sword dashed.

After 2 hours of waiting, then battle, we succumbed. We tried to bait them out by just waiting on the outer edge of the ring for over an hour, they wouldn't budge. They won due to this clearly cheap exploit.

Please consider reworking this map somehow. Maybe so there's a big rock in the way there? So only a rowboat can enter that bay? Or maybe implement some coding there, so ships can only be invaded in the open sea during Hourglass when near that island? Not sure what the devs can pull off, but that really shouldn't be allowed.

  • Supposedly if the game detects you're beached it will despawn after some time. And as long as you're not beached you should be taking on water on the ship on the bottom of the ship or tier 3 holes on the back of a sloop although slow, I do know I have been able to win a couple of matches thanks to this beaching mechanic by luck one in Port Merrick and another in discovery ridge. I know that after winning the match in Port Merrick I was able to sell the hourglass before it despawned.
So it's interesting that there's a place in the game that allows to take advantage of these beaching mechanics without causing the timer to despawn.
As far as I can recall the sinking mechanic triggers as long as the hole is touching water bigger the hole the longer it touches water.
And the despawn timer should start the moment the bottom of the ship touches land.

  • There's a few of these spots, dagger tooth, one of the sea forts. Very cheap. You have to camp them and get their ship out. With the sea fort we used blunder bombs to move their ship then sunk them with naval once they took the fight.

It's hard to judge, it's not in the spirit of the game but I don't think report worthy. The ship is meant to despawn but they don't seem to in these spots so I agree I'd prefer something changed.

  • @hiradc I think it is report worthy though, because that is clearly not as intended and thus they were using an exploit (wich is a form of cheating) to create an upper hand.

  • Thanks for the comments, mates ! We gave it everything we had and could think of, those stinkers just wouldn't despawn or completely sink! I've never made a report like this, but it felt warranted after talking to some of our other SoT guild members about it.

Totally cheap tho lol they took on water, but we think the shallow area/bay they were camping was what allowed them to not sink completely. It wouldn't rise above that last stair, and man, they were toxic to boot.

Annoying, def not in the spirit of the game. I talked to some of my homies about it and they have run into it before, but it was rare for them. We did try to just camp/lure them out, but they were playing the long game and it was late... we have jobs 🤣 After over an hour of waiting, we just hammered them with everything we could (even made a brig alliance with a passerby). We lost, but gained some new friends (the Brig who waged war with us).

I'm newer to Hourglass lol so it was not my best experience 😅 I feel it's something the devs should at least look at.

  • @bly55 edit: 2 hours of waiting/baiting* before the attack - typo!

  • Cheap, Sure. But is it really reportable? Doubt. Not even counted as an exploit, seeing players do this when they are doing the Vault :p

If someone does this without Hourglass, you are still under the rule of "thinking outside the box" and just protecting yourself.
Can it be fixed? Sure, just need to adjust some things for the game to register if the ship is too close to certain rocks or if its "close to the ground"

  • so this isnt an exploit? not being able to sink them at all? (30 holes in deck, not one bucketing from being dead and boat wont go down) camping the deck, praying they dont keg your ship while you try to undo the bs they did like knock down own mast/anchor the ship and get it moved?! this is a 100% exploit and any other game they would be banned. but no, they got whole youtube videos on how to do this dishonorable tactic. let me just figure out how to plant my boat on top if a fort and trick the beached timer into not going off. TOTALLY isnt an exploit that deserves a game ban, its not like its an exploit to farm Ancient Coins or anything so rare doesnt care.

I can sit here and lose all day long in a fair fight and not bat an eye. But Cheaters and Exploiters are some of the worst people in this community but rare doesnt bother with them until Premium Currency gets involved.
