Ideas for more Playable Seas Map areas

  • Lots of players want more lore, different biomes, as well as more seas area to explore; So how about using Portals (Like POTC and Monkey Island) to travel to alternate Seas, complete with new Islands, and even create lore to travel back in time to Flameheart's origins, Siren's Origins, or even just after the shroud's creation? Maybe travel into the future?
Lot's of potential for fresh lore, missions, and even new bosses.
    Thoughts? Ideas are welcome!
My apologies if this has been brought up in previous threads.
    Cheers!

Not really, just new areas to sail around and have new bosses to fight, as well as other crews, Just different themed megs, cursed islands, maybe a new "forgotten" themed fort. can certainly be pvpve able.
Not everything has to be Pve Server based

I think the issue is that you can only do this a few times, otherwise there will be so many different maps that will result in a lot of them not being used or subject to constant merging as it tries to condense the number of servers to support the fluctuating number of players entering and leaving these specific maps.

This might be better used as a sort of timed 'trial'/'raid' style event that is only expected to last for a limited time.

That would work; I still like a paralleled future 'Forgotten" themed FOTD or Port Merrick event, Like the Pirate lord or Flameheart sends you there to retrieve an artifact with a new set of enemies to fight, (as well as other players of course)
Maybe an apocalyptic future "Ice" biome and you can get some of the ice set items and cosmetics.

  • @gipperseadogI would love to get out of Devil's Shroud and explore the outside world, the problem is the technical issues.

You would think with all the ideas and talent the developers came up with to create this game, they could figure out how to solve the issue of creating new areas.
I would bet that the size of the map in SOT was created this size from the start and cannot be enlarged. Imagine if they found a way though? The freedom to do so much more sailing so we don't hit a rock every 2 minutes would be wonderful.
(That was just an example folks, try not to over analyze the strategy of the placement of rocks vs balance vs number of ships, yada, yada)
SOT needs new explorable areas, New bosses, enemies, new ideas to keep this fresh, otherwise it will turn into a big PvP arena game.
(Oh boy, I've done it now...)

  • @gipperseadog I don't think anything can be done until SOT leaves Xbox One and gets the servers stabilized well... those are the main limiting factors.

The game used to be more open, without so many rocks at the beginning... if I'm not mistaken there weren't even those islands not marked on the map. Later on they added things but I think the portals in Pirates Life are what took up the most space.

  • @gipperseadog sounds great. Don't count on it. Rare barely manages what we have now. They do not have the staff or the will.

It's already been enlarged - twice. Once when they added the Devil's Roar and a second time when they moved the red sea back to accommodate the A Pirate's Life finale areas and the Coral Castle.

They could make it bigger if they wanted to but the reason they don't is so that the ships aren't spread out and player encounters still fall within their target encounter rate.

    That makes sense :)
