Please approach this suggestion with a respectful and educated reply. I propose introducing a feature where players can use two fishing hooks simultaneously to catch two fish in a row. This feature could be unlocked at level 50 to encourage players to engage more deeply with the fishing mechanics. It would add a fun challenge and enhance the fishing experience, allowing for more efficient catches during fishing trips. This change would not only reward dedicated players but also encourage teamwork, as crews could coordinate their fishing efforts for better results.
Suggestion for Fishing: Dual Fishing Hooks.
How would it work?
Each fish caught would:- Have to be caught at the same time.
- Move in the same direction (Since pulling the wrong way will snap your line, so 2 fish moving in 2 different directions would be literally unwinnable)
- Have to get tired at the same time, or you could never reel them in.
- have to be the same distance away, or you'd end up reeling 1 in while the other is still fighting.
Overall, the animations would look silly, and it would not work all that well.
Unless you mean 2 players fishing at the same time which...they already can? Just fish next to your friend.
No need to make it some odd mechanic. How would this even... work, exactly?
Yes, fishing is pretty unfair for solos as with a crew you can get fish 4 times faster but...
Dual hooks? Really?
I guess if they managed to make it work somehow, it would be fishing hardmode which might actually be interesting.
But I don't see how it would ever work.

@th3-tater nets... nets... GIVE ME NETS no more runing! We need them now.
It goes in a weapon slot.
a feature where players can use two fishing hooks simultaneously to catch two fish in a row.
But why?
encourage players to engage more deeply with the fishing mechanics.
Or..catch more fish to finish fishing commendations?
encourage teamwork, as crews could coordinate their fishing efforts for better results.
How so?

Can’t agree I’m afraid shipmate.
As a legend of the hunters call, I can honestly state that the fishing grind is real, but worthwhile if it is what you set your mind too.
Making it teice as easy to care rare fish or treacherous plunder dilutes this mechanic.
Whether it's multiple lines or nets or bow fishing all they gotta do is make it have comparable effort. Then it just adds to preference without removing the grind.
An example would be names above fish, added convenience but people still gotta go catch all those fish and it's still time consuming.
A poison dart is an easier way to kill megs (with cannons) but it still takes time and experience to be efficient with it.
Convenience does chip away at significance but convenience is also necessary sometimes to keep things relevant.
The goal should always be adding to content but not killing off styles imo.
The easiest way to maintain a style now is with milestones. It's not difficult to mess with milestones to show which people did what and then work in whatever the change is.
Caught by net
Caught with A B or C.Helps maintain the significance for people that grinded before changes were made. If someone has a bunch of fish and barely any milestones for the new stuff then it's the old way (for those that grind organically).
Milestones are MUCH more useful and telling than commendations are.
That sounds cool, but it wouldn’t make sense without a full redesign of the current catching function.
Adding a net option for the harpoon gun, though, could be a great fit. Players could fire a net to catch fish or even capture other players, which would add depth to both PvP and PvE. It’d be a simple tweak to existing mechanics but could bring new strategy—like trapping opponents in PvP or catching multiple fish in PvE.
Net Gun Mechanics Proposal:
-
Limited Shots: Each player has 5 net shots, with only one net active at a time.
-
Reeling Mechanics: When a player fires the net into the water, they need to pull it back manually. Fish caught in the net will resist, similar to regular fishing, but the more fish caught, the greater the pushback and the longer it takes to reel in. The net can still snap if the tension becomes too high.
As for redesigning the catching function to allow using two hooks at once, there are some big downsides:
-
Harder to Control: Controlling two hooks would make fishing more complicated, and some players might find it frustrating instead of fun.
-
Tough to Learn: Using two hooks and switching between them would be a lot to handle, especially for new players, and could make the game less enjoyable.
-
Balance Problems: Catching two fish at once could make fishing too easy, which might mess up the game’s balance and progression.
-
More Work to Build: Changing everything to add two hooks would take a lot of time and effort, which might not be worth it if it makes things too complicated.
So, adding a net option for the harpoon is probably a better, easier way to improve both PvP and PvE without overcomplicating the game.

be even more of an issue with net-fishing ?

Well this sounds stupid. Is this even possible in real life? I doubt it.
Yes, actually. Go touch some worms lol.
@neonnyte nah I personaly like fishing as it is.
I was just amused by guy who didint google such simple stuff while climbing on that high horse.
Thanks for sharing this idea! The concept of dual fishing hooks is intriguing, especially as a potential reward for players who have invested significant time in fishing. I understand the concerns about feasibility, though; handling two fish with different behaviors and movements could indeed be challenging to implement smoothly. However, there might be a way to incorporate the spirit of your idea without overcomplicating things.
One possible approach could be introducing an “advanced fishing skill” or a special type of bait or equipment unlocked at higher levels, allowing players to catch multiple fish consecutively rather than simultaneously. For example, this could involve faster reeling speeds or a bonus chance to immediately attract a second fish after a successful catch. This way, the feature would still reward experienced anglers while maintaining the balance and pacing of fishing mechanics.
As others mentioned, ideas like fishing nets or net guns could be alternative ways to expand the fishing experience. Whether it’s dual hooks, nets, or other enhancements, I think any feature that builds on fishing would add value, especially if it encourages new strategies and crew coordination.
Thank you for bringing this up! It's always inspiring to see the community discussing ways to expand our favorite activities in Sea of Thieves.
