I was thinking- You can change the color of cannon smoke… So why not let us change the color of the flare effect when we shoot our guns? Maybe even change the color of the bullet?
The basic, stock of gun flares (Yellow, red, etc) could be purchased at the Weaponsmith, costing about half the cost of their cannon counterparts, and would be equipped in a separate tab in the Armory. Like cannon flares, they could also be purchased from the Emporium.
I dunno. Just a random thought.

This is a good idea, but I could see one problem with this; It could block your vision, which can drastically affect the fight. With ship fights its a giant wooden plank fighting another giant plank, smoke isn't going to affect if you can see the other ship, and the enemy isn't doing any crazy movement. Players are smaller and generally harder to hit. Color of the bullet would feel like a waste of money because you literally never see it, not even while reloading. An alternative to the colored bullets could be special kill effects, like in Halo, where killing the enemy disintegrates him, or explodes him in fireworks. Thank you for reading my Ted Talk.
